NYMF Announces Additional Concerts, Talkbacks & Workshops; Tickets Now On Sale by BWW News Desk - Jun 18, 2013
Completing the programming for the 10th annual New York Musical Theatre Festival, NYMF announced several additional concerts, a series of educational workshops, and a "Musicals on Television" screening series in partnership with the Paley Center for Media. LA Phil Honored with ASCAP's First Place Award for Programming of Contemporary Music by BWW News Desk - Jun 18, 2013
Today, the Los Angeles Philharmonic received ASCAP's first place award for programming of contemporary music as part of the 2012-2013 ASCAP Awards for Adventurous Programming. The award - the Orchestra's 29th since the ASCAP Awards were inaugurated - will be presented at the League of American Orchestra's 68th Annual Conference in St. Louis, MO. The LA Phil is one of 19 orchestras to be honored with a 2012-2013 ASCAP Award. The League and ASCAP present the awards each year to orchestras of all sizes for programs that challenge the audience, build the repertoire, and increase interest in music of our time. Approximately $725,000 has been bestowed on orchestras since the awards wereestablished in 1947. (more...)

Walt Disney Animation Studios (WDAS) has tapped a trio of talented actors to join the voice cast in 'Frozen.' Josh Gad ('The Internship,' 'Love & Other Drugs,' Broadway's 'The Book of Mormon') provides the voice of Olaf the snowman; Santino Fontana (Broadway's 'Cinderella,' 'Brighton Beach Memoirs,' 'Billy Elliot') lends his vocal talents as Hans; and Alan Tudyk ('42,' 'Wreck-It Ralph,' ABC's 'Suburgatory') joins the film as the voice of the Duke of Weselton. Frozen is an upcoming American 3D computer animated musical-fantasy film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. It is loosely based on Hans Christian Andersen's fairy taleThe Snow Queen. It will be the 53rd animated feature in the Walt Disney Animated Classics series. The film will feature the voices of Kristen Bell as Anna, Idina Menzel as Elsa the Snow Queen, and Jonathan Groff as Kristoff, in speaking as well as singing roles. STAGES ST. LOUIS is thrilled to announce new staff appointments to STAGES' Turley Performing Arts Academy. Broadway Veteran, Vince Pesce will assume the position of Director of Education at STAGES Kent Center for Theatre Arts, the new state-of-the-art facility, effective immediately. Pesce replaces longtime Education Director Rob Grumich, who will remain during the transition through July. Also, Tali Allen Liddell will become the Manager of Community Programs and Partnerships. The Music Center will partner with Los Angeles Ballet to present that company's productions of Agon and Rubies on Saturday evening July 6 at 7:30 pm, free to the public. Both have music by Igor Stravinsky and choreography by George Balanchine. This free event, under the stars in Grand Park and open to everyone, is part of the broad array of free public events The Music Center is presenting at Grand Park. Theme Park Insider reports that 'Multiple sources have told me the long-awaited dream of theme park geeks everywhere is actually happening. Disney's moving ahead with both Cars Land and Star Wars Land at the Disney's Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World.' They go on to note that 'This appears to be a five-year project, putting completion in 2018, though Disney could choose to throw money at it and accelerate it by a year.' (more...)
