Gustavo Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic give the world premiere of LA Phil Creative Chair John Adams LA Phil-commissioned The Gospel According to the Other Mary, Thursday and Friday, May 31 and June 1, at 8 pm, and Saturday and Sunday, June 2 and 3, at 2 pm, at Walt Disney Concert Hall. The latest of Adams large-scale works is a full-evening oratorio and features the Los Angeles Master Chorale and six soloists: mezzo-soprano Kelley OConnor, contralto Tamara Mumford, tenor Russell Thomas and countertenors Daniel Bubeck, Brian Cummings and Nathan Medley. On May 19, 2012 the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Downtown Los Angeles hosted Elaine Stritch's hilarious, anecdote-heavy Stephen Sondheim tribute concert ELAINE STRITCH: SINGIN' SONDHEIM...ONE SONG AT A TIME. Met with boisterous, well-deserved standing ovations both at the start and at the end of the intermission-less program, Stritch was in usual top form, dispensing out acerbic comments and witty barbs about her life, her career, and her love and admiration--both personally and professionally--for the Broadway composer. Broadway Across Canada and producers Thomas Schumacher of Disney Theatrical Productions and Cameron Mackintosh announced today that tickets for the long-awaited production of MARY POPPINS will go on sale to the public on Monday, June 4 at 10 a.m. Calgarys most eagerly awaited stage production will begin performances at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditoriumon Tuesday, July 31 for a limited engagement of one week through Sunday, August 5. Renovated Public Theater to Include New Lounge

This fall The Public Theater will unveil its revitalized downtown home as the Company celebrates a milestone year that also includes the 50th anniversary of the Delacorte Theater, home to Shakespeare in the Park. The revitalization will transform the lobby into a piazza where audiences, artists, and the public will engage with one another. A central element of the project is the addition of The Library at The Public Theater, a new lounge serving food and drinks on the lobbys expanded mezzanine level. The Library at The Public Theater is named in honor of the landmark buildings original use as the Astor Library, New York Citys first public library. ( more...)

The Los Angeles Philharmonic to Release Shostakovich Album, 6/19

The Los Angeles Philharmonic continues its collaboration with Deutsche Grammophon with the new release of two works by Shostakovich the world premiere of the Prologue to Orango and Symphony No. 4. Both works, led by LA Phil Conductor Laureate Esa-Pekka Salonen, were recorded live at Walt Disney Concert Hall in December of 2011. The 2-disc set will be available June 19, 2012. ( more...)

Pittsburgh CLO has announced casting for its summer season, which includes six shows, featuring the national tours of Come Fly Away and The Addams Family, and CLO original productions of A Chorus Line, Annie, Fiddler on the Roof and Sunset Boulevard. Notably, A CHORUS LINE brings on board a slew of the show's national tour veterans, ANNIE stars Sally Struthers as Miss Hannigan, FIDDLER ON THE ROOF features Broadway's Lewis J. The Miami premiere of Disneys THE LION KING opens tonight at 8 p.m. at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County for a limited engagement of four weeks through Sunday, June 10. Chairman of Stage Entertainment, Joop van den Ende and Producer and President of Disney Theatrical Productions, Thomas Schumacher announce two premiere productions of THE LITTLE MERMAID. The Holland production is currently in previews in Groningen and opens on June 16th, 2012 in Rotterdam. The Moscow production of THE LITTLE MERMAID will make its debut on October 6th, 2012. Tennessee Performing Arts Center Receives After-School Creativity Grants from Disney

The Tennessee Performing Arts Center has been named one of the first recipients of an after-school creativity grant from Disney. The $75,000 award will be used to develop sustainable theatre programs in Metro Nashville Public Schools, building on work that began when TPAC was selected as the first organization outside of New York City to offer the Disney Musicals in Schools outreach program.
