Chautauqua Theater Company celebrates 30th Anniversary Season Announced: CLYBOURNE PARK, CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF and More

Chautauqua Theater Company (CTC), under the leadership of Vivienne Benesch Artistic Director and Sarah Clare Corporandy Managing Director, is proud to announce programming for its 30th Anniversary season featuring Tennessee Williams' classic Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (June 28-July 7), the Pulitzer and Tony-winning Clybourne Park (July 19-28) and Shakespeare's The Comedy of Errors (August 9-16) on the Bratton Theater Mainstage. CTC's innovative The New Play Workshop (July 11-13; August 1-3) will present two exciting new plays and in a signature Chautauqua event two years in the making, The Romeo & Juliet Project will re-interpret this classic tale of star-crossed lovers in a ground-breaking multi-disciplinary reimagining on July 27 on the celebrated 5000-seat Ampitheater stage. There's something magical happening on stage at PlayMakers Repertory Company in Chapel Hill. Their production of John Logan's Red is one which you will not want to miss! The play, which won the Tony Award for best play in 2010, tells the story of painter Mark Rothko and his assistant, Ken. Chautauqua Theater Company's Artistic Director Vivienne Benesch has announced the final production of CTC's 29th season: Shakespeare's glorious As You Like It. Director Jackson Gay (3C, Rattlestick; A Little Journey, 2012 Drama Desk Nomination, The Mint) makes her CTC debut with a 1930's swing era slant on Shakespeare's funniest and most frolicsome play. Composer Justin Ellington (Other Desert Cities, Lincoln Center; 2010 Grammy Award Winner) infuses the festivities with a bubbling score performed live by the sixteen member cast. (more...)

Artistic Directors Vivienne Benesch and Ethan McSweeny are pleased to announce the four writers at the center of CTC's new play development work in Summer 2011: Kate Fodor will be in residence as the very first recipient of the Chautauqua Play Commission. Her residency will correspond with the New Play Workshop Festival that will feature fully staged readings of plays by Michael Golamco, Michael Mitnick and Molly Smith Metzler. (more...)
