BUNNICULA, WANDA'S MONSTER and More Nominated for Off-Broadway Alliance's Best Family Show by BWW News Desk - May 09, 2013
The Off Broadway Alliance today announced its nominee selections for Best Family Show, a category not often recognized in a season packed with honors for excellence in theatre. The award recognizes the extraordinary work being produced Off Broadway for young audiences and their families by a wide range of upcoming and established theatre artists. The organization, which announced its Legends of Off Broadway honorees and its nominees for best plays, musicals, and revivals yesterday, today announced the following five nominees for Best Family Show. In this hour-long show, young Samuel is challenged by aspects of childhood (including what feels like a plethora of rules). This leads to a role-reversal with the over-extended Tooth Fairy when she appears one evening to collect his lost tooth. Amphibian Stage Productions today announced casting for its first main stage production of the 2013 season, Fiction by Steven Dietz. Jakie Cabe, Lydia Mackay, and Cara L. Reid will star in this poignant drama, running Thursday, February 21 through Today, March 17 at Amphibian's theater at 120 S. Main Street. Mary Catherine Burke, a New York-based director, will lead the production. (more...)

Ghostlight to Release FANCY NANCY THE MUSICAL Cast Recording, 3/12 by BWW News Desk - Mar 04, 2013
Ghostlight Records has announced the release of the Original Off-Broadway Cast Recording of Fancy Nancy The Musical. The acclaimed children's show is currently running at Vital Theatre Company, New York's leading not-for-profit family theatre. The album will have a digital release of March 12 with physical copies online and in stores on April 23. The show features music by Danny Abosch, book by Susan DiLallo and lyrics by both. The musical is based on the book series written by Jane O'Connor and illustrated by Robin Preiss Glasser. (more...)

During the weeks before Martin Luther King Day, my childrens' schools always bring attention to the life of Dr. King and the civil rights struggles that have existed and still exist around the world. I'm always appreciative of the effort, but every year I find myself wondering how much of the lessons hold any real meaning. As an adult living in New York in 2013, I find it difficult to truly appreciate Dr. King's teachings. What do I know about being denied my civil rights? I get outraged when the MTA raises the cost of a subway ride or when my child is locked out of a popular after school activity. How much understanding could my nine year old possibly have of the complex phsycological and sociological history of the African American experience? (more...)

Vital Theatre Company has announced that its newest hit Fancy Nancy The Musical is making a very special homecoming back to the McGinn/Cazale Theatre. After taking an excursion--that's fancy for trip--downtown to Culture Project, Nancy returns to Vital Theatre beginning February 2nd, with performances every Saturday and Sunday at 3:30 pm, following performances of Vital's newest world premiere musical, Show Way.
