Dance Theatre of Harlem Commemorates MLK with 2018 New York City Center Season

Following its critically acclaimed, successful 2017 spring season, New York's beloved Dance Theatre of Harlem, under the artistic direction of Virginia Johnson, will return to NY City Center for its annual homecoming season from April 4-7, 2018.

Kozlova Int'l Ballet Competition Announces Winners

The Valentina Kozlova International Ballet Competition hosted just under 200 dancers from countries around the world for the June 6-10 event at Symphony Space, New York City.  The rich display of international talent was breathtaking as dancers in four categories, ages 11 to 26, performed for medals, scholarships to dance academies around the world, and company contracts with the Boston Ballet, Cincinnati Ballet, and Columbia Classical Ballet.

The acclaimed Dance Theatre of Harlem (DTH) gives three performances at the Auditorium Theatre on November 18, 19, and 20 with a program that includes System, a major new work by choreographer Francesca Harper. The work is supported by the New England Foundation for the Arts, and is inspired by the current social, political, and economic climate in the United States.System was choreographed in collaboration with Dance Theatre of Harlem dancers who used their own experiences as people of color for inspiration.  DTH Artistic Director Virginia Johnson told the Washington Post that System "addresses social justice issues in the Black Lives Matter era" and is "a very contemporary piece, but also very beautiful and uplifting.' A live string quartet performs composer John Adams' original music for the piece.

Today, SHOWTIME announced its fall premiere schedule, with the critically-acclaimed drama series MASTERS OF SEX returning for a fourth season on Sunday, September 11th at 10 p.m.  ET/PT, and the seventh season of the network's No. 1 comedy series SHAMELESS premiering on Sunday, October 2nd at 9 p.m. ET/PT. Then, on November 20th at 10 p.m. ET/PT, the third season of the Golden Globe-winning hit drama series THE AFFAIR will make its debut. BWW Review: Ringing in the New Year with DANCE THEATRE OF HARLEM

This past Thursday, Dance Theatre of Harlem (DTH) opened its doors to the community for an intimate gathering in their studios at the Everett Center of the Performing Arts on 152nd Street (between Amsterdam and St. Nicholas Avenues) to ring in the new year. As part of their Thursdays@DTH series, this evening's theme, Making Dance Communicate, consisted of an open rehearsal of two pieces and a conversation led by Artistic Director Virginia Johnson, with the incomparable Dianne McIntyre and the legendary Carmen de Lavallade.
