On November 7, at 7 p.m., the Museum of Jewish Heritage-A Living Memorial to the Holocaust and the Centro Primo Levi present the English premiere of The Mark of the Chemist, a staged reading starring John Turturro (O Brother, Where Art Thou) as Primo Levi and featuring New Yorker critic Joan Acocella and a soundscape by composer and guitar virtuoso Marco Cappelli (Art Spiegelman's In the Shadow of No Towers). Decca is proud to present Polish soprano Aleksandra Kurzak in her Decca debut recording: Gioia! Kurzak, supported by conductor Omer Meir Wellber and the Orquesta de la Comunitat Valenciana, performs arias by Rossini, Mozart, Donizetti, Strauss II, Puccini, Verdi, Bellini and Moniuszko. Stimmen' im Gustav Mahler-Saal der Wiener Staatsoper statt. Die beiden Ensemblemitglieder Caitlin Hulcup (Mezzosopran) und Tae Joong Yang (Bariton) präsentieren Arien, Duette und Lieder von Gabriel Fauré, Claude Debussy, Maurice Ravel, Franz Schubert, Henry Purcell, Vincenzo Bellini, Georg Friedrich Händel, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Gioachino Rossini sowiezwei koreanische Volkslieder. Am Klavier werden sie begleitet von der musikalischen Studienleiterin Kathleen Kelly. Karten à € 12,- sind an den Kassen erhältlich. ( more...)

The Lyric Opera of Kansas City continues its 53rd season after a record-breaking run of Carmen with the Company debut of Norma. Norma is the quintessential bel canto opera showcasing brilliant vocal singing and is the first Bellini opera ever produced by the Company. The production features a renowned cast of singers and The Kansas City Symphony conducted by Lyric Opera Artistic Director Ward Holmquist. Norma opens on Novembers 6, 2010 in celebration of National Opera Week October 29 - November 7, 2010. This will be the Company's final season in the Lyric Theatre. Beginning in the fall of 2011, the Lyric Opera will perform at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. ( more...)

The Kennedy Center will end its run of Golden Age, a new play by Terrence McNally, on April 4th. Following its world premiere with the Philadelphia Theatre Company ran in the Kennedy Center Family Theater as part of Terrence McNally's Nights at the Opera, a five-week event featuring three of the playwright's works performed concurrently on three Kennedy Center stages.
