BAM Presents PURPOSE AND PASSION: THE CINEMA OF JOHN SINGLETON

From Friday, September 13 through Friday, September 20, BAM presents Purpose and Passion: The Cinema of John Singleton, a career retrospective dedicated to the trailblazing late director. 'The sudden, shocking death of John Singleton at the age of just 51 in April 2019 robbed the world of a trailblazing, influential and, arguably, somewhat underrated chronicler of Black life on film,' says series programmer Ashley Clark. 'This is both a full retrospective of the late director's characteristically muscular, thought-provoking cinematic output, and a chance to pay tribute to a singular talent.'   

FX Unveils Slate of Docuseries and a Documentary Feature

FX unveiled five new docuseries and one documentary feature as part of an ongoing expansion into non-fiction programming. Announced by Nick Grad and Gina Balian, Presidents, Original Programming, FX Entertainment, the new series build on the success of The Weekly, FX's new narrative docuseries with The New York Times.

WE tv announced today its new original tell-all series, 'Untold Stories of Hip Hop,' featuring never-before-told tales from the biggest names in hip hop. Set to premiere this fall, the series from Creature Films (Biggie: The Life of Notorious B.I.G.), features interviews with Cardi B, Snoop Dogg, Queen Latifah, Ice Cube, Nelly, A$AP Rocky, DJ Khaled, Wyclef Jean, Ja Rule, Fat Joe and more, and is hosted by the foremost radio personality in hip hop, Angie Martinez.

The dubious side of fame goes under the spotlight with returning series Notorious and the real stories about the Bling Ring thieves, the Balloon Boy hoax, disgraced politician Anthony Weiner and brand spokesperson Jared Fogle.

The Old Globe today announced the cast and creative team for Familiar by Tony Award nominee Danai Gurira (Broadway's Eclipsed, Black Panther, "The Walking Dead"). This funny, warmhearted look at tradition, marriage, and what it means to be an American family will be directed by Edward Torres (the Globe's Water by the Spoonful and Native Gardens, Cancion at Repertorio Español) and will run January 26 - March 3, 2019 on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage, Old Globe Theatre, Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. Preview performances run January 26-30. Opening night is Thursday, January 31. Berkeley Repertory Theatre today announced the full cast and creative team for Paradise Square: An American Musical. The world premiere is helmed by acclaimed director Moises Kaufman, with choreography by the legendary Bill T. Jones and a book by Marcus Gardley, Craig Lucas, and Larry Kirwan. Music by Jason Howland and Larry Kirwan, with lyrics by Nathan Tysen, and based on the songs of Stephen Foster. Paradise Square is produced by special arrangement with Garth H. Andy Dick to M.C. World's First Hologram Karaoke Club

Hologram USA Inc.  (HUSA)  and the plant-based medicine oil and confectionary company Swissx announced comedian Andy Dick will be the MC and co-host of Hologram Karaoke Battle, an ongoing feature at the Swissx club inside the Hologram USA Theatre in Los Angeles. Dick will also appear in a television show by the same name, being shot at the events for FilmOn Television Networks.  Swissx gives $1000 prize to the top performer each night as decided by the audience. Hologram Karaoke Battle is happening every Thursday and Friday night, with the debut of Dick's hosting on Friday, November 2.
