Carole King Set for 'In Performance at the White House' Series, 5/22

As part of their "In Performance at
the White House" series, the President and First Lady will host a
concert in the East Room honoring singer-songwriter Carole King, who
will be awarded the 2013 Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for
Popular Song. President Obama will present the award as he did when
the Library of Congress honored Stevie Wonder (2009), Sir Paul
McCartney (2010), and the songwriting team of Burt Bacharach and Hal
David (2012). The program will include performances by King, as well
as Gloria Estefan, Billy Joel, Jesse McCartney, Emeli Sande, James
Taylor and Trisha Yearwood. (more...)

-Food Network launches into May with the season finale of Chopped All-Stars on Sunday, May 5th at 9pm followed by the first-ever Iron Chef America: Tournament of Championsas Iron Chef battles Iron Chef in a five-episode stunt premiering Sunday May 5th at 10pm. Daytime programming also heats up with the season three premiere of Trisha's Southern Kitchen on Saturday, May 25th at 10:30am and the season two premiere of Home For Dinner with Jamie Deen on Sunday, May 26th at 10am. Food Network gets spirited with a Cinco De Mayo themed weekend on Saturday, May 5th and Sunday, May 6th, followed by a Mother's Day weekend on Saturday, May 11th and Sunday, May 12th. WORKSHOP THEATER COMPANY in conjunction with JEM THEATRICALS is presenting the world premiere production of MY MOM IS TRYING TO RUIN MY LIFE, a new family musical comedy. The musical, with book by Kate Feiffer and MJ Bruder Munafo, music by Paul Jacobs, lyrics by Sarah Durkee, is based on the acclaimed picture book MY MOM IS TRYING TO RUIN MY LIFE, by Kate Feiffer with illustrations by Diane Goode (Simon & Schuster/Paula Wiseman Books). The musical will be directed by Debbi Katz and choreographed by Danyelle Demchock of the Young Performers Dance Academy. MY MOM IS TRYING TO RUIN MY LIFE will play a four-week limited engagement at the WorkShop Theater (312 West 36th Street). Country music stars Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood returned to Leogane, Haiti, to participate in Habitat for Humanity's 29th annual Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project. They were among the nearly 600 volunteers who helped to build 100 homes in the Santo community in partnership with families affected by the 2010 earthquake. (more...)
