The world premiere of the beautifully crafted musical “Los Otros” begins previews Wednesday, May 23 at 8 p.m. at the Center Theatre Group/Mark Taper Forum. With book and lyrics by Ellen Fitzhugh and music by Michael John LaChiusa, “Los Otros” opens on June 3, 2012; performances continue through July 1. Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater produces the 2011 Tony Award-winning production of Larry KramerÂ’s The Normal Heart, directed by George C. Wolfe. Wolfe, who directed the showÂ’s sold-out Broadway engagement last season, mounts the professional D.C.-area premiere of this production, which features returning Broadway cast members Patrick Breen and Luke MacFarlane, among others. The BMI-Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop announces its Spring Smoker, a semi-annual showcase for new songs from Workshop writers. The cast has been set for the world premiere of the chamber musical LOS OTROS, with book and lyrics by Ellen Fitzhugh and music by Michael John LaChiusa. LOS OTROS will run May 23 through July 1, 2012, with the opening scheduled for June 3. Nominations in 14 categories were announced today by the Off-Broadway League for the 2012 Lucille Lortel Awards for Outstanding Achievement Off-Broadway. This yearÂ’s ceremony will once again benefit The Actors Fund. The Lortel Awards will be handed out on Sunday, May 6, 2012 at NYU Skirball Center beginning at 7:00pm EST. (more...)
