Goodman Theatre's program dedicated to shaping theater critics of the future, the 'Cindy Bandle Young Critics' (CBYC) program, named for the Goodman's longtime press director, returns for its third year, engaging 29 11th graders from high schools in Chicago and neighboring Algonquin, Evanston, Hinsdale, Homer Glen, Itasca, Lake Bluff, Northbrook, Oak Lawn, Spring Grove, Westchester and Zion.

In conjunction with its current production of August Wilson's Joe Tuner's Come And Gone, directed by Bartlett Sher at the Belasco Theatre, Lincoln Center Theater will host a free symposium titled 'August Wilson's Century: From the World of Joe Turner to the Age of Obama' at 7:30pm at the Vivian Beaumont Theater (150 West 65 Street). The discussion will feature New York Times op-ed columnist Bob Herbert, the award winning author John Edgar Wideman and the critically acclaimed playwright Tracey Scott Wilson and will be moderated by noted African-American scholar Prof. Henry Louis Gates, Jr.

NAC Announces Kesselring Fellowship Recipients

The National Arts Club announced the recipients of its Kesselring Fellowship (formerly the Kesselring Award) supporting the work of extraordinary playwrights who have yet to achieve national recognition. An industry panel of writers, literary managers, actors, producers and directors and critics evaluated twenty-five finalists. In a rare move based on extraordinary merit, the 2009 panel and the National Arts Club choose to give out two lead awards rather than one. These two playwrights, Rajiv Joseph (Bengal Tiger at the Baghad Zoo, upcoming at the Mark Taper Forum) and David Adjmi (Stunning, upcoming at Lincoln Center 3) were awarded Kesselring Fellowships. Playwrights Jenny Schwartz and Tarrel Alvin McCraney were also named as Kesselring Honorees

The Public Theater Postpones 'A FREE MAN OF COLOR'

The Public Theater (Artistic Director Oskar Eustis; Executive Director Andrew D. Hamingson) announced today that A FREE MAN OF COLOR, the world premiere play by John Guare scheduled for late winter, has been postponed due to a loss of significant individual funding and a few key donations brought on by the current economic climate. The Public is still committed to producing this monumental play and expects to be mounting it next season.
