The Perry-Mansfield New Works Festival Begins 6/14 by BWW News Desk - May 15, 2013
The Perry-Mansfield New Works Festival, now in its 16th year, brings the Denver Center Theatre Company, Primary Stages (New York), and South Coast Repertory (California) to develop new pieces of theatre in the Rocky Mountains. Presented under the artistic direction of Andrew Leynse, (Artistic Director, Primary Stages), and with sponsorship from The Harold and Mimi Steinberg Charitable Trust, the New Works Festival continues Perry-Mansfield's founding principle of nurturing new talent with new work. Kirmser Ponturo Group announced today the formation of Kirmser Ponturo Fund. The Fund was created to invest and support multiple theatrical productions across seasons. The Fund was conceived by Fran Kirmser and is helmed by Fran Kirmser and Tony Ponturo and made up of a group of limited partner investors including Quinvita Enterprises LLC. (more...)

Breaking News: Deal in Place for Movie Adaption of Tony-Winning MEMPHIS by BWW News Desk - Oct 15, 2012
Deadline.com reports that a deal is now in place for Belle Pictures and the Mark Gordon Company to head a film adaption of Memphis at Warner Brother's Aclon Entertainment.
The film will be produced by Mark Gordon, Molly Smith and Alcon's Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson with a new script by Tony-winner Joe DiPietro.

MEMPHIS Will Recoup Investment on Broadway by Closing by BWW News Desk - Jul 30, 2012
The producers of the 2010 Tony Award-winning Best Musical MEMPHIS announced today that the production will recoup its $12 million investment as of its final performance on Broadway on Sunday, August 5, 2012 after 30 previews and 1,166 regular performances. MEMPHIS opened on October 19, 2009 at Broadway's Shubert Theatre (225 W. 44th Street), having begun previews on September 23rd.

Fran Kirmser and Tony Ponturo, the producers of the new Broadway play MAGIC/BIRD, announced today that the star of "Lombardi," Dan Lauria, will hold a talkback for ticketholders following the 8pm performance at the intimate Longacre Theatre (220 West 48th Street) this Wednesday, April 18. Lauria, who portrayed the legendary coach Vince Lombardi in the hit play last year, will be joined on stage by his longtime friend Peter Scolari, who is playing legendary coaches Red Auerbach and Pat Riley in Magic/Bird. Producers Fran Kirmser and Tony Ponturo (Lombardi) will next present MAGIC/BIRD on Broadway, reuniting with Tony-nominated director Thomas Kail (Lombardi, In The Heights) and Lombardi playwright and Oscar winner and Emmy Nominee Eric Simonson. The new play chronicles the intertwined life stories of two of the most influential figures in sports and pop culture of the past 25 years, basketball Hall of Famers Larry Bird and Earvin ‘Magic' Johnson. According to an audition notice out today, the production will go into rehearsal on January 23, 2012 and begin previews on February 27. An opening date and theater have yet to be announced.
