The Drama League has announced full casting for DirectorFest 2016: The 33rdAnnual Directors Festival, an evening of four short plays staged by The Drama League Directors Project Fall Directing Fellows Candis C. Jones, James Dean Palmer, Jesca Prudencio, and Shaun Patrick Tubbs.

For their inaugural offering, Great Circle Productions, bringing to life projects that inspire, offer hope, and touch the human heart, presents the world premiere of EDWIN, The Story of Edwin Booth, a dramatic musical that commemorates the 150th Anniversary (1866-2016) of the legendary actor's return to the stage, as well as the 400th Anniversary of the death of William Shakespeare (1564-1616), with music by Marianna Rosett, and book & lyrics by Eric Swanson.

As techno music plays and the stage lights come up in the Pamela Brown Theatre the audience is presented with an antiseptic, industrial brick wall with large windows and a set of chairs. It is here that Peter (David McElwee) is crashed out, slumping over the chairs while Karlie (Lexi Lapp) is jumping all over the room occasionally rummaging through a bag of junk food or talking on the phone. This is a hospital ER and this young couple is there because their daughter, Luna Gale, is sick. Unfortunately, Peter and Karlie are too.

In Extremis Theater Company is pleased to announce its world-premiere production of Happy by Liz Thaler (The Fresh Fruit Festival's The Peddler's Tale, FringeNYC's Courtney and Kathleen: A Riot Act) as part of F*ckFest, a sex-positive theater festival at The Brick. This production, directed by Lauren Miller (FringeNYC's How Do You Say Mother in Esperanto?, Producer of newTACTics at TACT/The Actors Company Theatre) and produced by Peryn Schmitt, will be presented at The Brick in Williamsburg, Brooklyn (579 Metropolitan Avenue) for 4 performances: Today, June 20th at 2PM, Sunday June 21st at 5PM, Saturday June 27th at 6PM, and Sunday June 28th at 5PM. The performance runs 95 minutes with no intermission.

Actor James Denton ('DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES') is in town to promote his new show 'GOOD WITCH' on the Hallmark Channel. Last night, he attended TACT's 'ABUNDANCE' to see his friend Todd Lawson, who plays Jack in the show. He congratulated Todd and the rest of the cast after the show. Scroll down for a photo!

Abundance, now playing at the Beckett Theatre, was commissioned in 1989 and is based on true life stories of pioneering women . . . Clearly well researched, Abundance manages to feel both intimate and sweeping . . . Director Jenn Thompson makes one feel like a voyeur. When unexpressed, emotions are evident, when manifest, frequently physically, they're visceral. Characters are defined by carriage as well as dialogue and allotted time to think. Outbursts are never too big to be credible. The stage and minimal set are well used.

ABUNDANCE, the 1990 play by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Beth Henley (Crimes of the Heart), is an epic tale of friendship set against the backdrop of the sweeping American West. Abundance is directed by TACT Co-Artistic Director Jenn Thompson, who directed last season's production of William Inge's Natural Affection. Performances began at Theatre Row's Beckett Theatre (410 West 42nd Street - between 9th & 10th Avenues) on February 17, and the production opened last weekend on March 1. Playwright Beth Henley was in the audience on Saturday night (February 28) to see TACT's production of her play, ABUNDANCE. The cast was not told she was there until after the show and were thrilled to meet her. Scroll down to see her beaming backstage with the cast!
