Atlantic Theater Company will welcome Olivier and two time Tony Award winning playwright John Guare in his Off Broadway acting debut in the world premiere production of his new play 3 KINDS OF EXILE, directed by Atlantic artistic director Neil Pepe, featuring Atlantic ensemble members Peter Maloney and David Pittu and guest artists Alison Cimmet, Jeffrey Kuhn, Jacquelyn Landgraf, Martin Moran, Kate Rigg, Omar Sangare and Timothy Splain. Mary Testa Leads York's HOWLING HILDA Reading Tonight

York Theatre Company and its Developmental Reading Series presents the reading of the new musical, Howling Hilda, with book and lyrics by Anne Berlin, and music by Andrew Bleckner will be directed by Valentina Fratti, with music direction by Timothy Splain, and featuring Mary Testa. The reading, free and open to the public with a reservation, is set for one-performance only tonight, March 12th at 7:30 p.m. at The York Theatre Company at Saint Peter's (Entrance on East 54th Street, just east of Lexington Avenue). Feinstein's at Loews Regency will continue its Summer 2011 season with the debut of three-time Tony Award nominated Broadway star Marc Kudisch on July 17 and 18. 'What Makes Me Tick' - his debut at the club - is an evening of casual conversation and great music, featuring popular selections from Broadway, country, and folk to fusion and jazz, all rolled into one big jam fest. Marc commented 'this concert is an attempt to understand how I got here and why I'm driven to be here: the inner working of what makes me tick,' says Kudisch. He will be joined by Music Director Timothy Splain, Ritt Henn on bass, and Michael Croiter on percussion. Both shows are at the Loews Regency Hotel (540 Park Avenue at 61st Street). (more...)

Review - Adding Machine and Artf*ckers

February of 2008 has turned out to be a heck of a terrific month for non-traditional and daring Off-Broadway musicals. (Do we have any more opening by tomorrow night?) Following the exhilarating Next To Normal and the entrancingly Dadaist The Blue Flower we now have Joshua Schmidt (music and libretto) and Jason Loewith's (libretto) haunting chamber piece, Adding Machine, based on Elmer Rice's 1923 Expressionist drama. To call it 'old-fashioned' would be misleading, but one of the pleasures of Adding Machine is that it recalls a time when political and social protest musicals were not uncommon among Gotham's theatrical offerings.
