Season three of the SHOWTIME web-to-television comedy series WEB THERAPY will premiere on Tuesday, July 23rd at 11 P.M. ET/PT. On Sunday, May 19, at The Globe Theatre, 100 Universal City Plaza, Universal City, CA, the Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles (www.gmcla.org), whose mission is to change hearts and minds through the power of music, presented the 2013 Voice Awards. This year the organization honored American Idol, AT&T, activists Fred Arens and Jason Duguay, and writer/director Liesel Reinhart. The choices I have made are based solely on the plays and performances that I actually saw. I cannot see all the great talent that is out there in LA; it is physically impossible, as there exist far too many theatre/cabaret performances for one person to cover. So if a choice of yours is not on my list, chances are, I did not see that play or performance...or, it just did not make the final cut. I also do not separate Equity from Equity waiver; I consider all the productions/performances I select to be of top-of-the-line quality/professionalism. (more...)

The Pasadena Playhouse, in association with W.I.T. Productions, announced today the full casting, featuring Hal Linden, and creative team for UNDER MY SKIN. Single tickets are also now on sale to the public and rehearsals begin tomorrow, August 14. This World Premiere engagement of UNDER MY SKIN is written by the award-winning team of Robert Sternin and Prudence Fraser and will be directed by Marcia Milgrom Dodge. Performances will begin September 11 through October 7, with an official press opening on Wednesday, September 19, 2012, at 8:00 p.m. at The Pasadena Playhouse. (more...)

Prolific TV writers Robert Sternin and Prudence Fraser turn their talents to the stage with Under My Skin, an amusing fantasy with sexual role reversal. The male spirit gets trapped in a female body and the female in a male's, creating laughs aplenty, quirky romance and even manages to take a stand on a very important topical issue. The issues never reach the level of full dramatic conflict, though, as a sitcom-like comedy style takes control, and it's utter bliss for all concerned, now at the Pasadena Playhouse through October 7. HERO Theatre announced the full cast for their benefit staged reading of Tennessee Williams' "Small Craft Warnings" to be led by Emmy Award winner William H. Macy, star of Showtime's Shameless and Joe Manganiello of HBO's True Blood and feature film Magic Mike. The cast includes Tim Bagley, Stephanie Beatriz, Elisa Bocanegra, Dan Donohue, Brent Jennings, and Sam Murphy. The director is John Frank Levey. The benefit will be held on Sunday, July 29 at 6pm at the Annenberg Community Beach House in Santa Monica, CA and will include a silent auction. (more...)

The 2011 Garland Award recipients were announced today, honoring the best of Los Angeles theatre. Under the voting system each Garland winner was named on at least three critics' 'Best of 2010' lists. Each critic listed up to five nominees for each category except performance, up to 10 nominees for performance in musical productions and 10 for straight plays. Here are the critics' lists, minus the winners.
The critics who voted are Jeff Favre, Hoyt Hilsman, Travis Holder, Eric Marchese, Dany Margolies, Dink O'Neal, Melinda Schupmann, Madeleine Shaner, Les Spindle, Neal Weaver, and Jennie Webb. Show at Barre is proud to host yet another all-star lineup of Broadway, film, and TV stars for March 9th's edition of The Christopher Show. The Christopher Show is a live, comedic American talk show that interviews established Hollywood as well as new Hollywood and the Broadway community. Funny man and Broadway star Christopher Youngsman (Grease) hosts. This week in the interview chair will be TV & film star Cindy Williams (American Graffiti, Laverne & Shirley), and Broadway leading ladies Jennifer Cody (Urinetown, Shrek) & Julia Murney (The Wild Party, Wicked).
