NYMF Announces Additional Concerts, Talkbacks & Workshops; Tickets Now On Sale

Completing the programming for the 10th annual New York Musical Theatre Festival, NYMF announced several additional concerts, a series of educational workshops, and a "Musicals on Television" screening series in partnership with the Paley Center for Media. Virginia Rep to Celebrate 60th Anniversary with STEEL MAGNOLIAS, 7/12-8/25

Virginia Repertory Theatre celebrates the 60th anniversary of the founding of Barksdale Theatre at Hanover Tavern with a production of Steel Magnolias featuring an all-star cast. The show opens on Friday, July 12, 2013 at Hanover Tavern, 13181 Hanover Courthouse Road, and runs through August 25, coinciding with the official anniversary on August 1. Sixty years ago in 1953, six actors, two children, a dog and two pigs moved into a historic ruin called Hanover Tavern. The transplanted New Yorkers founded Central Virginia's first professional theatre and named the company in memory of a deceased college friend, Barbara Barksdale. (more...)

Everyman Theatre closes its historic 2012/13 season with a staging of the rarely produced comedic gem, The Beaux' Stratagem. Founding Artistic Director Vincent M. Lancisi directs the production, which features a large cast of 15 actors and includes Resident Company Members Megan Anderson, Clinton Brandhagen and Bruce Randolph Nelson. While casting is still underway for the 75th Anniversary Production of OUR TOWN (Thornton Wilder's timeless piece of life in Grover's Corners), award-winning actor and former San Diego DJ Paul Michael Nieman has been cast to play the principal role of Stage Manager! Paul has the distinction of being one of the original staff DJ's for K-BEST 95FM that hit the San Diego air waves in 1978. At the time, he went by Paul Diamond when San Diego had the 9th largest radio market in the U.S. and Paul had the #1 rated show for women age 18-35. (more...)

The forthcoming Broadway production REAR WINDOW has found its creative team in playwright Keith Reddin(Too Much Memory, Life and Limb) and director Terry Kinney (reasons to be pretty, One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest). The play will be adapted from Cornell Woolrich's original short story, the iconic and haunting tale of the wheelchair-bound witness to a possible murder in his neighboring New York City apartment. PASSCAL, Americana Music to Present 75th Anniversary Production of OUR TOWN, 8/2-11

To celebrate the anniversary of Thornton Wilder's OUR TOWN, PASSCAL will produce a limited engagement of the classic play with Americana music and original scoring composed by Jonathan Kupper, at The First Congregational Church in Buena Park, California for the first two weekends of August. It is the ONLY production slated for the Southern California area for the Anniversary! The production is being produced by PASSCAL (Performing Arts Society of Southern California) in Association with All Seasons Theatre Company, Inc. Patrick Riviere, who most recently directed the acclaimed production of THE LAST DAYS OF JUDAS ISCARIOT at The Victory Theatre in Burbank, will helm the production. Transport Group, the Drama Desk, Outer Critics' Circle, and OBIE award-winning theatre company, has announced that it will present a one-night-only, all-star concert of the acclaimed 1959 classic Broadway musical Once Upon A Mattress on Monday, June 17 at 7pm at the Romulus Linney Courtyard Theatre in the Pershing Square Signature Center, 480 West 42 Street. Jackie Hoffman will star as Princess Winnifred with John 'Lypsinka' Epperson as The Queen Aggravain, and the evening will be directed by five-time Drama Desk nominee, Jack Cummings III. Composer Mary Rodgers will take part in a post-show discussion with the audience. Further casting will be announced at a later date. Theater Latte Da announced yesterday that a season of four adventures in musical storytelling and the continuation of a major new work development program will comprise its 16th Season. Slated for production are Steerage Song at The Lab Theater (September 25 - October 20, 2013), All Is Calm: The Christmas Truce of 1914 at the Pantages Theatre (December 19-22, 2013), Cabaret at the Pantages Theatre (January 15 - February 9, 2014), and Our Town at The Lab Theater (March 12 - April 6, 2014). In spring 2014, the company will bring back NEXT: New Musicals in the Making, their program to develop new works for the musical theater canon. (more...)
