The Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts (TAPA) is pleased to announce the VIP presenters for the 34th annual Dora Mavor Moore Awards, to be held Monday, June 24 at 7pm at St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts' (StLC) Bluma Appel Theatre and which will also be live-streamed to the TicketPro Doratron in the StLC's Jane Mallett Theatre due to popular demand. Harvey Fierstein & More Set for TKTS Times Square's 40th Anniversary Celebration, 6/26 by BWW News Desk - Jun 12, 2013
On Wednesday, June 26, TKTS in Times Square, the same-day discount theatre outlet for Broadway and Off Broadway shows celebrates 40 years in Times Square. Beginning at 11am, there will be a special celebration in honor of TKTS' 40th Anniversary behind the TKTS Booth on Broadway and 47th Street. A proclamation from the City of New York will be presented to Theatre Development Fund (TDF) and accepted on its behalf by 'The Unofficial Mayor of Broadway,' 4-time Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein. (Fierstein most recently wrote the book for the Broadway musical Kinky Boots, which won the most Tony Awards of any production this year, including 'Best Musical'). After the presentation, the cast of Forbidden Broadway will perform a special tribute to TKTS written by the show's creator, Gerard Alessandrini. (more...)

The George Luscombe Award was inaugurated in 1999. Revolutionary theatre founder and artistic director George Luscombe founded Toronto Workshop Productions in 1959, marking the beginnings of Toronto's alternative theatre movement. He was Artistic Director for 27 years at TWP. (more...)

Paul Templin Honored with 2013 Leonard McHardy and John Harvey Award by BWW News Desk - Jun 04, 2013
The Leonard McHardy and John Harvey Award (LMJH Award) was inaugurated in 2008 and recognizes the important work of theatre, dance and opera administrators. Recipients of the LMJH Award have at least 10 years of demonstrated commitment to the performing arts, in addition to having made an impact on the industry in Toronto. The award is named after Leonard McHardy and John Harvey, the celebrated owners of Toronto's Theatrebooks, which they co-founded in 1975, and which now stands as one of the longest surviving independent bookstores in the country. TDF to Celebrate Open Doors Graduation, June 3 by BWW News Desk - May 30, 2013
Over 300 guests including current and past New York City high school students, and the performing arts professional mentors who have participated in TDF's Open Doors, the theatre arts mentoring program that TDF founded in 1998 with playwright Wendy Wasserstein, will attend this year's graduation at 5:30pm on Monday, June 3 at The Pershing Square Signature Center - Irene Diamond Stage (480 West 42nd Street, NYC). New York Live Arts' newest program initiative, Live Ideas is an annual humanities festival that will explore a different theme each year over several days. The inaugural festival, The Worlds of Oliver Sacks, will take place from today, April 17 through 21, 2013 and is comprised of more than 20 events, including performances, films and discussions that showcase works of art and spark conversations that engage the prevalent themes in the acclaimed neurologist's works.
