Lucas Papaelias, of Broadway’s ONCE is set to join the line up of the previously announced 17th annual LOWER EAST SIDE (LES) FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS. Papaelias is also known as LPfunK and is an actor/guitarist/composer who was nominated for a Drama Desk Award (Best Original Music in a Play) for his work in Adam Rapp's “Essential Self-Defense” at Playwrights Horizons. Most recently, he co-wrote the rock musical PYRAMIDICA: Songs of Freedom, which takes place live in a pyramid scheme company's “free” orientation, and was presented at the Vineyard Arts Project’s New Writers / New Plays Festival. He also conceived of, and composed, the rock opera ITHACA: a Perpetual Shredfest, the story of a Lower East Side rock band performing their final concert, which had presentations at Joe’s Pub and ARS Nova. FEINSTEIN'S AT LOEWS REGENCY continues its Spring 2012 season with the return engagement of Grammy Award nominated singer and entertainer MARILYN MAYE. Her new show – “The Happiest Sound In Town” – is her annual birthday celebration and features some of her most-requested numbers including “Guess Who I Saw Today,” “Bye Bye Country Boy,” “Rain” and “Golden Rainbow.” Another highlight of the show, “Come In From The Rain,” was a personal favorite of Johnny Carson; Maye performed it many times on “The Tonight Show” at his personal invitation. Maye’s recent local appearances have been received with rave reviews and full houses. The show runs through Saturday, May 5 at the Loews Regency Hotel (540 Park Avenue at 61st Street). The life and career of playwright, composer, director and actor Noel Coward is being celebrated by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in a new touring exhibition, "Star Quality: The World of Noel Coward" which is currently open at the Lincoln Center until August 12. As first reported back in the Spring of 2010, Sutton Foster and her ANYTHING GOES director Kathleen Marshall had teamed up on a reading presentation of THE UNSINKABLE MOLLY BROWN, which could be gunning for a Broadway revival in the near future. In 2010, Foster starred alongside Craig Bierko in the role of James Joseph "J.J." Brown. Michael Riedel had reported in the New York Post at the time that Reba McEntire was being courted for the famous role of 'Molly'. (more...)
