It's Official, REBECCA is Back On! To Play Broadway's Broadhurst Theatre, Opening November 2012 - Mason, McGillin, Barbour & More

It's back on! REBECCA, the new musical based on the classic novel by Daphne du Maurier novel (and later turned into an Oscar-winning film by Alfred Hitchcock) which was postponed earlier this year, will now open on Broadway Sunday, November 18 at The Broadhurst Theatre (235 West 44th Street). Previews will begin Tuesday, October 30. REBECCA will be produced by Ben Sprecher and Louise Forlenza; with The Shubert Organization, DC Tours Pty Ltd, Manderley Partners, Julian Spencer, Paul Abrams, Tony Fusco, Nanda Anand, Peter Bogyo, Peter Bezemes and Dennis Grimaldi, in association with David Mirvish, Stage Entertainment and Larry Feinman and by special arrangement with Vereinigte Bühnen Wien GmbH. The executive producer is Marshall B. Purdy.

Off-Broadway's CARRIE to Receive Cast Recording

Ghostlight Records announced today that they will go into the recording studio with the cast of Carrie next week, April 17, to record the first-ever cast album. Release dates for the album will be announced at a later time.

CARRIE to be Available for Amateur & School License; Boston First

The New York Times reports tonight that "the creators and MCC said one successful result of the revival is that the musical would become a licensable property available for productions at high schools, colleges and regional theaters. After the 1988 Broadway production closed, the creators were so devastated that they refused hundreds of requests by directors and theater companies to stage Carrie until Mr. Arima pitched his vision. Now the creators are ready to say yes to productions, and are already talking to one SpeakEasy Stage Company in Boston about doing Carrie next spring."

MCC THEATER (Robert LuPone, Bernard Telsey, William Cantler, Artistic Directors; Blake West, Executive Director) announced today that Carrie will be filmed and preserved for the Lincoln Center Library For The Performing Arts Theatre On Film and Tape Archive during the matinee performance on Saturday, April 7th, marking the first-ever professional recording of the legendary show. As previously announced, Carrie will close following the evening performance on Sunday, April 8, 2012 (after 34 previews and 46 performances), concluding an initial 8-week run and 2-week extension. Now, on the show's official Facebook page, lead producer Ben Sprecher writes "Rebecca is moving forward. We have identified the final missing piece of investment and the Shuberts (to whom I shall be forever indebeted) have graciously allowed us to resume production to open at the Broadhurst in fall of 2012. Thank you all for you patience and most of all to the extraordinary creative team who have stuck by this fantastic production through thick and thin as Rebecca continues to play in productions throughout the world."

At the end of January, the producers of REBECCA, the new musical based on the classic novel by Daphne Du Maurier novel (later turned into an Oscar-winning film by Alfred Hitchcock) announced that the production would be postponed until next season. The Village Voice's Michael Musto is reporting that the show might be making its Broadway debut sooner than expected. Musto writes: 'They have started rehearsing again and they plan to take over the Broadhurst Theatre when A Streetcar Named Desire exits.' ( more...)

REBECCA was slated to open Sunday, April 22 at the Broadhurst Theatre, with previews beginning March 27.
