Japan Society is proud to host groundbreaking artists John Zorn and Ryuichi Sakamoto for an improvisatory pair of currently sold-out performances tonight, October 4 at 7:30pm and 9:30pm. This evening represents the final performance in the multi-show Zorn@60 celebration, commemorating John Zorn'skanreki, his sixtieth birthday; coinciding with the Japan Society Performing Arts Program's sixtieth anniversary celebration.

Composer/pianist Vijay Iyer and master percussionist Cyro Baptista are the latest Guiding Artists to join the Creative Music Studio's 40th Anniversary workshop, October 7 - 11, at the well-appointed Full Moon Resort in Big Indian, NY. In addition to Vijay and Cyro, the four-day workshop will feature renowned musicians and educators, including Peter Apfelbaum, Tony Malaby, Jason Hwang, Kirk Knuffke, Kenny Wessel, Steve Gorn, Mark Helias and others. They will join CMS Artistic Directors Karl Berger and Ingrid Sertso, exploring CMS's "Music Mind" practice that focuses on the common elements of all music, inspiring awareness, personal expression, intensive listening and cross-cultural communication. Registration deadline is September 7, 2013.

In a blazing Labor Day finale to Rite of Summer's 2012 season, Todd Reynolds, 'New York's reigning Jazz and Classical Violinist' (The New Yorker), and fiddle-player of choice for avant-gardists everywhere, has assembled a stellar cast of characters to explore the vortex where bluegrass, electronica, minimalism and classical music swirl. Featuring music of glass harmonica virtuoso Jonny Rodgers, avant-bluegrass guitarist Jordan Tice (The Jordan Tice Trio), and the singular percussionist Mathias Kunzli, currently on tour with Regina Spektor. This will take place on Colonels' Row tonight, September 3rd.

At this annual solstice ritual, the Paul Winter Consort celebrates the first sunrise of summer within the vast acoustics of the world's largest cathedral, New York's Cathedral of St. John the Divine. Beginning in complete darkness, musicians surrounding the audience play continuously for two hours as the cathedral's stained-glass windows gradually illuminate to usher in the longest day of the year.

Samir Chatterjee travels the world accompanying all the great Indian artists, and it's always a delight to perform with him.
