Clive Barnes Awards Recipients to Be Announced, 12/10 by BWW News Desk - Dec 07, 2012
On Monday, December 10th at 2:30pm, with an audience of 300 in attendance, the winners of the 3rd annual Clive Barnes Awards will be announced. With Michael Reidel serving as host, the presenters this year include Frederic Franklin, CBE, Paloma Herrera, and Maya Johansen (Bernes).The Clive Barnes Foundation have previously announced the nominees for the 2012 Clive Barnes Awards, a distinguished annual honor recognizing the work of young actors and dancers in New York City. This years' nominees for theatre are Joaquina Kalukango for her performance in Signature Theatre Company's production of Katori Hall's Hurt Village, Derek Klena for his performance in Second Stage Theatre's production of Dogfight, directed by Joe Mantello, Rob McClure for his performance in Chaplin, now in performances at the Barrymore Theatre, and Stephen Tyrone Williams for his performance in Signature Theatre Company's production of Athol Fugard's My Children, My Africa. For dance, the nominees are Lauren Lovette (New York City Ballet), Steven Melendez (New York Theater Ballet), and Ashley Murphy (Dance Theater of Harlem). (more...)

END OF THE RAINBOW to Close on Broadway August 19; LA Stop, Tour and Film in Development by BWW News Desk - Jul 31, 2012
The highly acclaimed Broadway production of End of the Rainbow, written by Peter Quilter and directed by TonyŽ Award winner Terry Johnson, will play its final performance on Sunday, August 19, it was announced today. The production, which began performances on Monday, March 19, 2012 and opened to rave reviews on Monday, April 2, will have played a total of 176 performances at Broadway's Belasco Theatre.

The annual party known as the Elliot Norton Awards was held at the Paramount Center, bringing the Boston theater community together to celebrate achievements of a lifetime, as well as of the past year. Individuals singled out for recognition included song-and-dance man extraordinaire Tommy Tune, Broadway producer Spring Sirkin, and Kate Snodgrass, Artistic Director of Boston Playwrights' Theatre and Co-Founder of the Boston Theater Marathon. End of the Rainbow is hosting theaterland's first ever Instagram Meet-Up at the famed Belasco Theatre (111 W. 44th Street). Taking place at 12:45 p.m. tomorrow, Saturday, April 21, the event, which is open to all interested Instagram enthusiasts, will offer participants an exclusive tour of the recently renovated theatre, which boasts one of New York's most beautiful neo-Georgian interiors. Those participating in this rare opportunity will be encouraged to snap and post photos of the theater via Instagram. An elite group of influencers, including Kathryn Stockett (best-selling author of The Help), former U.S. congressman Harold Ford, Jr, Deputy Mayor Dennis Walcott, and many more will participate in a special post-performance talkback series next month at Driving Miss Daisy. As previously announced, the series, celebrating Black History Month, will feature talkbacks after all Wednesday evening performances throughout the month of February and will kick-off with a talkback featuring CBS News Correspondent Michelle Miller and her husband, Marc Morial (President of the National Urban League and former New Orleans mayor).

David Dinkins Joins DRIVING MISS DAISY Talk-back, 2/9 by BWW News Desk - Feb 08, 2011
Producers Jed Bernstein and Adam Zotovich announced today that former NYC Mayor David Dinkins will participate in Driving Miss Daisy's series of Wednesday night post-performance talk-backs, celebrating Black History Month. Dinkins will join the line-up for the post-show discussion tomorrow (Wednesday, February 9), which also includes CBS News correspondent Michelle Miller, Deputy Mayor Dennis Walcott, and NYU Professor Martha Hodes. Driving Miss Daisy producer Jed Bernstein will moderate the conversation, which will center around the issues of race brought up in the play.
As previously announced, this series continues throughout the month, with talk-backs following all Wednesday evening performances. Upcoming guests include Harold Ford Jr. (February 16), Kathryn Stockett (February 23) and more. See below for a full schedule of participants.
