Tenor Vittorio Grigolo always seems most at home on stage when he's living close to the edge--portraying a character who's losing control (or about to) of his emotions. It was true earlier this season as Romeo, in Gounod's ROMEO ET JULIETTE at the Met opposite Diana Damrau and, in 2015, as Chevalier Des Grieux in Massenet's MANON, also with Damrau. (Might as well add Offenbach's Hoffmann to the mix.) Well, Massenet's back at the Met with WERTHER, also starring the gorgeous, sultry-voiced mezzo Isabel Leonard and all should be well with the world, with Grigolo as the poet who's losing his head (and mind) over a woman who can't (or won't) reciprocate. And yet…

Anna Netrebko to Star in Puccini's MANON LESCAUT at the Met, Tonight

Anna Netrebko will add a new role to her wide-ranging Met repertory tonight through December 3 when she sings her first company performances of the seductive, tragic heroine of Puccini's Manon Lescaut.Marcelo Álvarez makes his role debut as Manon's obsessed lover des Grieux, with Christopher Maltman stars as Manon's brother Lescaut and Brindley Sherratt as Geronte, Manon's older lover. The November 21, December 7, and December 10 performances will star Kristine Opolais as Manon, reprising a role she first sang with the company in last season's premiere of Sir Richard Eyre's staging. Marco Armiliato will conduct all performances of Manon Lescaut at the Met this season.

On Monday, June 27, Sex & The City actress Kim Cattrall spoke about her career, offering insights to fellow actors as part of the SAG Foundation's Conversations Program presented at the presented at the NYIT Auditorium on Broadway. BroadwayWorld was on hand for the talk and brings you the full discussion below! It was just announced yesterday that Kim Cattrall and Paul Gross will star on Broadway this autumn in Noël Coward's Private Lives directed by Richard Eyre at the Music Box Theatre. Previews will begin on Sunday November 6; opening night is Thursday November 17. The limited engagement runs through February 5 2012. Cattrall starred as Amanda in Sir Richard Eyre's production of Private Lives at London's Vaudeville Theatre in 2010. The production received rave reviews from the critics and played a sell-out season. It will play a limited run at Toronto's Royal Alexandra Theatre prior to Broadway. Cattrall will be joined by Paul Gross in the role of Elyot for the production.
