Five months…  FIVE MONTHS after their previous musical comedy, Jumbo, opened at the Hippodrome, the trio of Richard Rodgers, Lorenz Hart and George Abbott had a brand new one at the Imperial.  But far from seeming a rush job, their 1936 On Your Toes can easily be argued to be a huge step forward in refining musical comedy into a sophisticated art form.

On Your Toes will have guest music direction by Encores! founding music director Rob Fisher and will play seven performances, from May 8 - 12 at New York City Center, W. 55th Street (between 6th and 7th Avenues). The "Slaughter on Tenth Avenue" ballet, originally choreographed by George Balanchine, will be staged by Susan Pilarre, who served as a Ballet Mistress of the show's 1983 Broadway Revival.

New York Theatre Barn will present a free private reading of the new musical Costs of Living tonight, November 7 and 8 in the Theatre District.

New York Theatre Barn will present a free private reading of the new musical Costs of Living November 7 and 8 in the Theatre District. Jose Llana (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee) and Enrico Rodriguez (Zanna, Don't!, Rent) will star. Costs of Living, with book, music and lyrics by Timothy Huang, was a selection of Stephen Schwartz's 2012 ASCAP Musical Theatre Workshop and a 2012 American Harmony Prize finalist.

Under the Streetlamp, which sprung up among four lead singers who toured nationally with the Tony-winning JERSEY BOYS, is all about a single, simple shared experience of popular music on the radio. You can experience that pure form of entertainment yourself when the quartet comes to Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts on the UConn campus tonight, October 27th at 8 pm.
