Pasadena Playhouse Kicks Off 3rd Annual High School Theatre Festival Today

The Pasadena Playhouse announced that the theatre would host the THIRD ANNUAL HIGH SCHOOL THEATRE FESTIVAL today, April 27, from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. The event will feature fifteen local high schools, each performing a theatrical piece of their selection. Admission to the Festival is $5.00 and all proceeds will go towards funding next year's High School Theatre Festival. This special, non-competitive, event was created so that all friends, family and supporters of the surrounding communities and the local schools may enjoy the talent of the participating students. This year's event will also feature surprise celebrity guest appearances. (more...)

Pasadena Playhouse to Launch CIRQUE AT THE PLAYHOUSE Summer Programs, 7/15

The Pasadena Playhouse (Sheldon Epps, Artistic Director and Elizabeth Doran, Executive Director) announced that it will debut CIRQUE AT THE PLAYHOUSE this summer featuring two-week programs for youth, teens and adults; and will conclude with an intensive session and showcase for professionals interested in pursuing a career in the circus arts. The Pasadena Playhouse (Sheldon Epps, Artistic Director and Elizabeth Doran Executive Director) announced today that the "best party in Pasadena" annual fundraiser entitled PREMIERE GALA "DESTINATION": AN AFFAIR TO REMEMBER would be held at a private club in Pasadena on Saturday, June 1, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. This year's event will honor Playhouse Alumni/supporter and Broadway producer Kathleen K. Johnson. The Playhouse Board of Directors will be spearheading this red carpet gala event inspired by the Hollywood glamour of the 1940s and 1950s. (more...)

Iago, by the late James McLure with Creative Consultant Beth Henley and directed by Art Manke will perform April 16 and 17, 2013. The Pasadena Playhouse (Sheldon Epps, Artistic Director and Elizabeth Doran, Executive Director) in association with Todd Gershwin and Daniel Chilewich of One Night Productions, LLC, the Estate of Janis Joplin and Jeff Jampol of JAM, Inc. announced that in less than four weeks into its engagement, ONE NIGHT WITH JANIS JOPLIN has officially become the highest-grossing production in the history of The Pasadena Playhouse, breaking a previous record held by Stormy Weather which played for eight weeks in January - March, 2009. The Pasadena Playhouse (Sheldon Epps, Artistic Director and Elizabeth Doran Executive Director) announced their 2013-2014 season today. The season will include a revival of the longest-running Broadway musical revue, Smokey Joe's Cafe featuring the musical masterpieces of the legendary team of Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller; Stoneface: The Rise and Fall and Rise of Buster Keaton, by Vanessa Claire Stewart and starring French Stewart ("3rd Rock From the Sun") which enjoyed a successful run at Sacred Fools Theatre Company this past summer; Above the Fold a new drama by Bernard Weinraub, about the world of journalism in the digital age, which received a HOTHOUSE at The Playhouse staged reading in 2012; Noel Coward's rarely produced A Song at Twilight, directed by Art Manke, who recently directed The Playhouse's hit revival of Coward's Fallen Angels; and a theatrical surprise production that will be selected and directed by Playhouse Artistic Director Sheldon Epps, to be announced at a later date. Panto at The Playhouse returns with Lythgoe Family Productions' special musical twist on the classic Aladdin tale, which will be offered as a holiday season add-on. OZOMATLI Performs Concert at The Pasadena Playhouse, 4/15

The Pasadena Playhouse (Sheldon Epps, Artistic Director and Elizabeth Doran Executive Director) announces a one-night only concert featuring Ozomatli, which continues the celebration of the ground-breaking musical diversity of its current production: One Night With Janis Joplin and Los Angeles' eclectic music landscape. A portion of the proceeds from this concert will benefit The Playhouse's Wells Fargo Theatrical Diversity Project. Tickets are now on sale for this special evening on Monday, April 15, at 7:00 p.m. that will feature all-new music from their upcoming album. A limited number of VIP tickets are available which include a Cafe Con Ozo meet and greet with the band members featuring Ozomatli's Ozo Espresso, courtesy of Zona Rosa Coffee. Zona Rosa Caffe and Ozomatli have a long history of collaboration, starting in 1995 when Ozo began playing weekly shows at the Pasadena coffeehouse that specializes in Organic and Latino coffees.
