Michael Moore, Morgan Spurlock and More Attend DCTV's Groundbreaking in NYC by Movies News Desk - May 07, 2013
Earlier today New York City officials Kate Levin, Scott Stringer, Margaret Chin and Gale Brewer were joined by acclaimed filmmakers Michael Moore (Bowling For Columbine); Matthew O'Neill (China's Unnatural Disaster, Redemption), and Morgan Spurlock (Super Size Me) at a ceremony to mark the groundbreaking of Downtown Community Television Center's new documentary-only theater. The groundbreaking marks a significant milestone for Downtown Community Television (DCTV), a cultural fixture in Lower Manhattan since 1972 founded by the award-winning filmmaking team Jon Alpert & Keiko Tsuno. Christine Ebersole Brings STRINGS ATTACHED to 92Y, 5/16 by BWW News Desk - Apr 29, 2013
Two-time Tony Award-winning singer/actress Christine Ebersole joins jazz violinist Aaron Weinstein and his trio for Strings Attached, a special late-afternoon performance at 92nd Street Y on Thursday, May 16 at 4 pm. Ebersole and the trio showcase classics standards from the '20s and '30s by Fats Waller ("Jitterbug Waltz"), Cole Porter "Ev'ry Time We Say Goodbye"), Johnny Mercer ("This Time the Dream's on Me") and George Gershwin ("Shall We Dance"). Strings Attached debuted in November 2011 at a sold-out engagement at Birdland Jazz Club; this performance is 92Y's annual Kathryn W. Stein Memorial Concert. (more...)

Municipal Art Society Recognized by Manhattan Borough President by BWW News Desk - Mar 27, 2013
Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer took a stand today and recognized what the New Penn Station Alliance led by the Municipal Art Society (MAS) and Regional Plan Association (RPA) have already stated New York City needs a new Penn Station.In order for that to happen the Borough President recommended as did the New Penn Station Alliance that the MSG special permit to operate an arena on top of Penn Station be limited to a 10-year term.This 10-year period gives New York the time to develop a real and workable plan to move the Garden and build a world-class train station.Madison Square Garden has already had four incarnations in New York City and it's time for a fifth. Just yesterday, Atlantic Theater Company held the grand reopening of its main stage Linda Gross Theater following a historic $8.3 million renovation of the landmark theater housed in a nineteenth century church in Manhattan's Chelsea neighborhood. A dedication ceremony hosted by Atlantic founding members Emmy and Golden Globe AwardŽ winner Felicity Huffman and Academy AwardŽ nominee William H. Macy officially christened the newly renovated theater, featuring a gala cocktail hour attended by Atlantic company members, Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer and government officials and a special musical tribute.
