If you're a cabaret performer thinking about staging a musical comedy theme show, or even if you're just a cabaret fan who appreciates a thoroughly entertaining show on multiple levels, you should try to squeeze yourself into The Duplex on Wednesday night at 7 pm to see Adam Shapiro's encore performance of his Guide to the Perfect Breakup, which is also a textbook on how to create the almost perfect musical comedy cabaret show. With the guidance and support of Director Peter Napolitano and Musical Director Barry Levitt, Shapiro has crafted a structurally intricate yet seamless show about the evolution of romantic relationships-no matter what your gender-which is also funny without being sarcastic, biting without being bitchy, and tender without being cloying. In her current cabaret show at 54 Below, Marin Mazzie, who has starred in Passion, Ragtime, Kiss Me Kate, Man of La Mancha, Spamalot and Next to Normal, pays homage to her childhood and teenage years in Rockford, Illinois, to the songs her parents loved, and to some of the 1960s and 1970s hits that fed Mazzie's passion to be a singer. PEOPLE YOU MAY KNOW (PYMK) Cabaret Series, will present version 3.0 in its popular evening of songs dedicated to showcasing and celebrating the work of new composing artists and the work that has been influential in shaping them. Featured in PYMK version 3.0 will be the works of Jeff Blumenkrantz (recipient of the 2012 Fred Ebb Award); Barry Anderson & Mark Petty ("The Songwriter's Union"); and Michael Kooman & Christopher Dimond ("Dani Girl"), along with the works that inspired them. Performances of PYMK version 3.0 will be Monday, July 30 at 7:00pm and Thursday, August 9 at 9:00pm at the Triad Theatre (158 W. 72nd Street) in Manhattan. (more...)

Up-and-coming musical theatre writers are teamed with Broadway's hottest performers at the concert directed and produced by Laura Pietropinto (Next to Normal), co-produced by Jillian Robbins, and musically directed by Virginia Hart Pike.
