David Snider to Join Arena Stage as Director of Artistic Programming July 2012

Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American TheaterÂ’s Artistic Director Molly Smith has announced that this July 2012 D.C.-area arts manager and artist David Snider will become the companyÂ’s Director of Artistic Programming. Snider will be leaving Young PlaywrightsÂ’ Theater (YPT), where he has served since 2005 as producing artistic director and CEO, to bring his multi-faceted, award-winning talents to the artistic team of Arena Stage. Let’s face it: You have to give Paul Vasterling, the grand poobah (as both artistic director and CEO of Nashville Ballet, what other title suits him best?) of all things musical/dancical/theatrical in Music City, a whole bunch of credit for the imaginative—heretofore unexperienced—heights he has helped his company achieve and his city to claim as its own. The man has redefined the idea of collaboration while giving human form to the term “synergy” with his continuing efforts to push the creative envelope in a city filled with artistic types and their sometimes conflicting sensibilities. Over the next year, In the Room will host some of the most celebrated playwrights, composers and lyricists in the American theatre discussing craft while sharing their influences and experiences creating some of their most celebrated work. id Theater returns to McCall, Idaho for the 12th Seven Devils Playwrights Conference, June 11-23, sponsored by the Alpine Playhouse. Playwrights, actors and directors from around the country will travel to McCall and, working with local artists and students, develop ten new plays that will be presented to the public free of charge. Women's Project will end its 34th season with an off-Broadway show of epic proportions when seven playwrights, four directors, three producers and five actors collaborate on one world premiere play titled from the famous Ellen Stewart quote We Play for The Gods. We Play for The Gods stars Annie Golden, Amber Gray, Alexandra Henrikson, Irene Sofia Lucio and Erika Rolfsud.
