Review: STAGE KISS, Hampstead Theatre

Art imitates life, and life imitates art in Sarah Ruhl’s 2014 play Stage Kiss. When two ex-lovers are cast in the same show, their on-stage relationship bleeds into their off-stage one, and vice versa. The weight of their baggage threatens to ruin their relationships, but Ruhl is excessively compassionate and wholly unoriginal.

Review: EURYDICE at DreamWrights

The 2006 musical, Hadestown, has renewed interest in the Greek mythology and the tragic love story between Orpheus and Eurydice. Ruhl’s play focuses on Eurydice’s perspective and her relationship with her father, who she meets in the underworld. Nana Yates portrayed Eurydice with honest emotions and strength through her grief. Christ Drinkut portrayed Eurydice’s father with warmth and compassion. Anshel Drayton portrayed Orpheus as determined and committed to his love.

Review: DEAD MAN’S CELLPHONE Sits in a Bizarre Space Between Life and Death

The surreal script can best be described as oddly bizarre. Dead Man’s Cellphone is a fantasy that explores human obsession with digital technology and the effects it has on our relationships. But it goes beyond the plot device to connect the protagonist to a dead man’s family. It examines how we sanctify the departed when we may have little or no information about them. Those who enjoy abstract and experimental theater will the love Dead Man’s Cellphone. Others, while they may not like Ruhl’s play, should appreciate the exceptional work by the talented director, cast, and crew.

Student Blog: The Sun as Your Spotlight

After the sometimes difficult, sometimes depressing winter, it is always nice to refresh, reset, and bloom as spring begins. This spring, I have shifted my focus from the dark, cold of winter to the literal and metaphorical brightness of spring. The world can be so heavy, especially as a college student with seemingly endless, compounding assignments and worries, and I’ve decided this year that, rather than dwell on my own anxiety and stress, I am trying to focus more on the joy and light around me.
