In Pit, the residents of a Welsh mining village are pushed to the brink as the Iron Lady tightens her grip on Britain. The play explores how these people cope with adversity and the lengths to which they will go to survive as the miner's strike of 1984 brings out the best and the worst of this tight-knit community. Caps Lock Theatre, an NYIT-Award nominated theatre company founded by nytheatre.com "Person of the Year" Mariah MacCarthy, will present Pussyfest Redux, February 9-10 at Joria Productions (260 West 36th Street between 7th and 8th Avenue). The two evenings will feature monologues about the body, written for femaleidentifying or female-bodied actresses, as well as some live music by female musicians. (more...)

Theater for the New City Announces PIT Cast

Long View Theater Company presents Pit, a new play by Melisa Annis. Jeff Woodbridge directs a cast of eight including Patrick Eichner, Samantha Jones*, Kurt Kelly*, Jake Levitt, Molly Lovell, Sarah Matteucci, Ted McGuinness, and Michael Mraz. Pit will run at the Theater for the New City, 155 First Avenue (bet. 9th and 10th Streets), New York City 10003 for sixteen performances, February 28-March 17, 2013. *Member, Actors' Equity Association. This spring, the students in Site-Specific Directing at Primary Stages Einhorn School of Performing Arts (ESPA) have staged theatre all over New York City: from Shakespeare in Central Park and on the High Line to Chekhov in the Russian and Turkish Baths to Sarah Kane on rooftops, libraries, and street corners. The directors concluded their class this week by fully producing eight new short plays by a group of incredible writers in and around the Dumbo neighborhood of Brooklyn. (more...)
