Official: Joe Manganiello to Lead Yale Rep's A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE by BWW News Desk - Jun 14, 2013
YALE REPERTORY THEATRE (James Bundy, Artistic Director; Victoria Nolan, Managing Director) has announced that Rene Augesen will play Blanche DuBois and Joe Manganiello will play Stanley Kowalski in its first-ever production of A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE, the Pulitzer Prize winning masterpiece by Tennessee Williams. Directed by Mark Rucker, the production, which will open Yale Rep's 2013-14 season, will play September 20-October 12, at the University Theatre (222 York Street). (more...)

The Ringwald and Olympia Entertainment are thrilled to be bringing the hilariously, bloody Evil Dead: The Musical back to Detroit for its fourth annual engagement. In honor of the cult classic's Detroit world premiere in October 1981, the musical will perform a four week engagement starting Wednesday, October 2 through Saturday, October 26 at Detroit's City Theatre; located inside Hockeytown Cafe at 2301 Woodward Avenue. The highlight of the festival will be a personal appearance by actor-author-director James Franco who will be at the event to accept the HBO Latin America Ally Award for his career accomplishments and his unwavering support of the LGBT community. Actor/writer/director Zach Braff today launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund the production of the feature film WISH I WAS HERE. Braff will direct and star in the film which is based on an original screenplay he wrote with his brother, Adam Braff. Despite lackluster reviews, (Manohla Dargis at The New York Times said the film 'has none of the first movie's handmade charm or hilarity, intentional or otherwise') Sam Raimi's remake of the hit 1981 dark horror-comedy outperformed initial expectations, taking in $26 million domestically. Daniel Craig, Rachel Weisz,and Rafe Spall will star on Broadway in Harold Pinter's BETRAYAL, directed by ten-time Tony Award-winner Mike Nichols. BETRAYAL will begin performances on Tuesday, October 1 at the Barrymore Theatre (243 West 47th Street). Opening night is Sunday, November 3. "Oz The Great and Powerful" will have a special advance screening for the public, with prizes, on Thursday, March 7 at 8:30 pm (doors open at 8 pm); the El Capitan engagement of "Oz The Great and Powerful" is through April 30. It seems that OZ's magic is just slightly more powerful than BURT WONDERSTONE's wonky slight-of-hand. Sam Raimi's fantasy adventure, a prequel to the hit film, THE WIZARD OF OZ, starring James Franco, Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz, and Michelle Williams, took in an additional $42.2 million during its second weekend, bumping its two-week total to just over $145 million.
