SWAN LAKE MARIINSKY LIVE to Play Movie Theatres in 3D This June

Bringing Russia's world renowned ballet company to U.S. movie theaters nationwide, Cameron Pace along with NCM Fathom Events and Omniverse Vision Ltd. present a stunning new re-interpretation of Tchaikovsky's famous masterpiece with "Swan Lake Mariinsky Live*" from the Mariinsky Theatre. Broadcast live in both 2-D and RealD 3-D from the historic Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, Russia on Thursday, June 6 at 6:30 p.m. local time, this exclusive event will be led by multi-award winning Artistic Director Valery Gergiev. Mariinsky's principle ballerina and the latest brilliant star from the company, Ekaterina Kondaurova, will star in the main role as Odette. For the first time ever, this classic ballet will use the same Academy Award-winning technology created by the Cameron Pace Group for films such as "Avatar," "Hugo" and "Life of Pi." (more...)

Degage, Coupe, Glissade, Croise... These are not only Steps in Ballet, but also Techniques of the Blade. Pointwork can be done with a Rapier as well as a Point Shoe. Translating the choreography of the duel to the language of ballet, this Benefit Performance for Salon/Sanctuary Concerts will feature the world premiere of a fiery and intimate pas de deux created for Jared Angle and Megan LeCrone, as well as a live presentation of the historically-based, fiercely beautiful sword fight (performed by a male and female fighter), upon which the ballet is based. BWW Remembers: Maria Tallchief--January 24, 1925 - April 11, 2013

Maria Tallchief, the first Native American to win acclaim as a prima ballerina, passed away on April 11, 2013. While she worked with many companies and choreographers, she is most renowned for her collaboration with George Balanchine, first at The Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo and then, most importantly and famously, at the New York City Ballet. She was married to Balanchine from 1946 until 1952 when the marriage was annulled. Despite this interruption in their private lives they continued their professional association. (more...)

Further defining the Mariinsky as one of the world's premier centers for classical music, opera and ballet, the opening of the new hall marks the completion of the Mariinsky Cultural Complex in St. Petersburg's historic Theatre Square and provides the legendary Russian organization with even greater artistic possibilities. February 2, 1954 marks the 59th anniversary of George Balanchine's The Nutcracker. Wasn't the ballet presented in December? No, you are wrong. It was first unveiled by the New York City Ballet in 1954 for a few performances. It proved so popular that the company presented the ballet for an extended December run in 1954. Now in its third season, TrancenDanceGroup announces the fall performances of 'Unveiled Souls' at the Manhattan Movement and Arts Center tonight, November 10th and the 11th, featuring the world premiere of company director/choreographer Gabriel Chajnik's Crescent and full, and G*D, a multimedia dance work in progress about a holocaust survivor. 'Unveiled Souls ' presents two microcosms of human frailty and hope, communicated through provocative and emotionally charged choreography that is sometimes poetic, sometimes edgy. Music ranges from an original score by musician and Grammy Award-winning producer Barry Goldstein commissioned for TrancenDanceGroup to pieces by Henryk Gorecky, Ernst Bloch, and others. (more...)
