Paul McCarthy's New 'Snow White' Installation to Take Over Park Avenue Armory, 6/19-8/4 by BWW News Desk - May 22, 2013
This June, Park Avenue Armory unveils a new large-scale installation and video project by artist Paul McCarthy, considered among the most provocative and influential voices in the international art world today. Drawing inspiration from the 19th-century German fairytale Snow White and McCarthy's ongoing exploration of American myths and icons, WS takes over the Armory's Wade Thompson Drill Hall from June 19 through August 4, 2013, and marks the Armory's seventh major visual art installation to date. 59E59 Theaters will present the US premiere of DIRTY GREAT LOVE STORY, written and rhymed by Richard Marsh and Katie Bonna, and directed by Pia Furtado. Maryland Ensemble Theatre Announces 2013-14 Season by BWW News Desk - May 21, 2013
Maryland Ensemble Theatre (MET) has announced its 2013-2014 mainstage season. MET's sixteenth mainstage season will run from September of 2013 through June of 2014 and will feature a British comic classic, an American masterpiece and several contemporary crowd pleasers. MET Artistic Director Tad Janes believes that each of the six mainstage shows in MET's upcoming season will help, 'build on the strong reputation we have earned over the past decade and a half as a destination for challenging, entertaining, professional theater.' Today in 1982, Macbeth opened at the Circle in the Square Theatre, where it ran for 21 performances. Written by William Shakespeare, Macbeth is about a regicide and its aftermath. It is Shakespeare's shortest tragedy and is believed to have been written sometime between 1603 and 1607. The earliest account of a performance of what was probably Shakespeare's play is April 1611, when Simon Forman recorded seeing such a play at the Globe Theatre. (more...)
