The Wilma Theater Continues 2015-16 season with New Stoppard Play THE HARD PROBLEM
by Tyler Peterson
- Dec 9, 2015
Tom Stoppard's first new play since Rock 'n' Roll introduces us to Hilary, a 22-year-old psychology student applying for a coveted position with the Krohl Institute for Brain Science. As Hilary prays for strength to move beyond personal regrets, she passionately explores the blurred lines between science and psychology with her colleagues and her sometimes-lover Spike. Ethics are called into question as they delve into the 'hard problem' of consciousness versus gray matter, and debate whether altruism even exists. Following a sold-out run at the National Theatre in London, the Wilma-'America's foremost interpreter of the playwright's work' (Philadelphia Magazine)-is proud to be among the first to bring The Hard Problem to U.S. audiences.

BWW Review: DOCTOR ZHIVAGO Original Broadway Cast Recording
by Jenny Ell
- Oct 29, 2015
It may have lasted a mere six weeks on Broadway earlier this year but Doctor Zhivago is not a brand new production, having originally debuted in California in 2006. Then followed an Australian touring production in 2011, Seoul in 2012 and the show had its Scandinavian premiere in 2014. Regrettably after failing to be nominated for any Tony Awards and a slump in ticket sales, the New York production did not last as long as hoped. This is not, however, a testament of its quality.

It is the age of vaudeville. A quartet of penguins and a trio of parrots sing and dance, dazzling and delighting their audiences, night after night in this one of a kind, all avian revue. But when the show's temperamental cracker-crazed macaw star mysteriously goes missing, it threatens to close down the show for good.

BWW Reviews: La Mirada's Jolly MARY POPPINS Is A Charming Delight
by Michael L. Quintos
- Jun 11, 2015
The charming new regional production of the Disney/Cameron Mackintosh musical spectacular MARY POPPINS---currently playing at the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts through June 21---has found a lovely, practically perfect Poppins in Hart of Dixie's Brandi Burkhardt, who confidently channels the nanny we all love with her lovely singing voice and a pitch-perfect demeanor that's at times bold, at times cheeky, and altogether beguiling. As for the show itself, it's quite a delightful crowd-pleaser, filled with colorful first-rate visuals, spectacular dancing, festive songs, and an infectiously enthusiastic cast that tries its best to win over its audience. And, boy, they definitely do!
BWW Reviews: Stages St. Louis' Absolutely Delightful THE ARISTOCATS
by Chris Gibson
- Jun 10, 2015
The feature length animated film, THE ARISTOCATS (1970), was the last project Walt Disney approved before his death in 1966. My son and I watched it several years ago on DVD, when he was just a little tyke. And then, in 2010 we attended Stages St. Louis' wonderful production of the show. Five years later I was little hesitant to bring him to their latest presentation, just because he's that much older, but I think he actually enjoyed it more the second time around. He's now at an age where he can really appreciate the work that goes into bringing these shows to the stage. He loved the performances and music, and so did I. Stages has put together an excellent show that, obviously, has appeal for kids of all ages (and adults as well), and it's currently gracing the stage of The Westport Playhouse. I think the intimacy of the venue acts to enhance the experience, bringing the audience that much closer to the action.
