Westport Country Playhouse will stage the National Book Award-winning memoir, “The Year of Magical Thinking” by Joan Didion, June 12 – 30, featuring noted actress Maureen Anderman as Didion. Directed by Nicholas Martin, the play is based on the author’s actual experience rebuilding her life during the year after her spouse’s death and her capacity to emerge strengthened from even the most shattering of life’s trials. Fred Weintraub, The Bitter End Founder, to Visit NYC to Promote Memoir, 3/29 - 4/5

Fred Weintraub, an 85-year-old Bronx native, who has spent more than 50 years in the entertainment business, is coming to NYC March 29 - April 5, to promote his new memoir, "Bruce Lee, Woodstock and Me." The founder of the Greenwich Village nightclub The Bitter End (which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year), began his adventurous life in the Fort Apache section of The Bronx, after which it took him to Greenwich Village and the founding of the world famous Bitter End, where he launched the careers of such famous entertainers as Woody Allen, Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara, Joan Rivers, Billy Crystal, Bill Cosby, Judy Collins, Peter, Paul and Mary, Dustin Hoffman, Carly Simon, David Amram, and Neil Diamond, among others, and then out West to Hollywood where he discovered Bruce Lee and produced "Enter The Dragon," and then produced the original Woodstock movie and 40 more films with stars such as Steve McQueen, George C. Director Ulu Grosbard Dies at 83

Broadway and film director Ulu Grosbard died in Manhattan early this week. Known for his direction of Broadway productions like David Mamet's American Buffalo and films like True Confessions, the 83 year old died at the NYU Langone Medical Center on late Sunday or early Monday, the New York Times reports. VH1 announced today that it will air the 17th annual "Critics' Choice Movie Awards" on Thursday, January 12 at 9:00 PM ET/PT. This year marks the first year that the show will be held on a Thursday and the fifth straight year the network will televise the event.
