The Harlem School of the Arts (HSA) today announced that it will be naming its building to honor the generosity of Herb Alpert, Lani Hall Alpert and the Herb Alpert Foundation. Harlem School Of The Arts to Receive $5 Million Grant from The Herb Alpert Foundation by BWW News Desk - Sep 25, 2012
The Harlem School of the Arts (HSA), the community-based cultural and educational institution serving children and families of all backgrounds for nearly 50 years, today announced that it will receive an historic grant of more than $5 million from the Herb Alpert Foundation. The grant, totaling $5,050,000, is a gift from legendary musician, artist and philanthropist Herb Alpert to ensure a sustainable future for the Harlem School of the Arts and the future of its students. For over nine months, the Harlem School of the Arts (HSA) has worked with Disney Theatrical Group to develop adaptations of Disney's musical The Lion King for young performers. Aubrey Lynch is an original cast member and former associate producer of the Broadway production, and he has been overseeing HAS's workshop presentations of Disney Theatrical Group's newest in-development musical for young people. This process has become a vehicle for HSA to further its mission and develop a fifth discipline, musical theatre. (more...)
