The 11th season of AMERICAN IDOL came to a sensational conclusion last night as Phillip Phillips was crowned the winner during the live two-hour season finale on FOX. Pittsburgh CLO has announced casting for its summer season, which includes six shows, featuring the national tours of Come Fly Away and The Addams Family, and CLO original productions of A Chorus Line, Annie, Fiddler on the Roof and Sunset Boulevard. Notably, A CHORUS LINE brings on board a slew of the show's national tour veterans, ANNIE stars Sally Struthers as Miss Hannigan, FIDDLER ON THE ROOF features Broadway's Lewis J. Today’s spotlight falls upon Darin Richardson, who is currently onstage in Circle Players’ Hairspray, getting his 1960s teen heartthrob on as Link Larkin, playing opposite Whitney Vaughn as Tracy Turnblad. For Richardson, it’s just the latest in a long list of onstage roles, which includes his recent role in The Keeton Theatre's Kiss Me, Kate, and a stint at the Miracle Theatre in Pigeon Forge, where he and castmates were forced to sort of re-write The Good Book when Jesus got stuck in the tomb. Seriously. Last night, April 24, Carnegie Hall presented its gala benefit performance of The Sound of Music in the Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage. The cast was led by Laura Osnes (Maria Rainer), Tony Goldwyn (Captain von Trapp), Brooke Shields (Elsa Schraeder), Patrick Page (Max Detweiler), Stephanie Blythe (The Mother Abbess), Mary Michael Patterson (Liesl von Trapp), Nick Spangler (Rolf Gruber), Cotter Smith (Herr Zeller), and Reed Birney (Admiral von Schreiber). They were joined by and Joel Hatch (Franz, The Butler), Joy Hermalyn (Sister Berthe), Linda Mugleston (Sister Margaretta), Faith Sherman (Sister Sophia), and Veanne Cox (Frau Schmidt). Matt Zarley began his career at 12 years old, dancing with Tony The Tiger in a Kellogg's "Frosted Flakes" commercial. Subsequently, his path took him to Broadway many times. He made his Broadway debut, while still a teen, in A CHORUS LINE. Jim Caruso and Billy Stritch will be performing swinging standards at the legendary Bemelmans Bar at The Carlyle Hotel every Sunday in June from 9pm – 12 midnight. The two performers, who have performed extensively on their own, gained national exposure together as the host and musical director of the open mic Cast Party, which celebrates talent every Monday at Birdland in NYC, and tours nationally.
