?The BMI-Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop announces its Winter Smoker, a semi-annual showcase for new songs from Workshop writers. The event will be held in the 30th Floor Media Room of BMI's New York office at 7 World Trade Center/250 Greenwich Street on Thursday, January 31 at 5:00PM and is open to members of the entertainment industry as well as Workshop members. Told from the viewpoint of the iconic cinema director actor Orson Welles, THE PASSION OF ED WOOD focuses on Hollywood shlock director Ed Wood, posthumously awarded 'The Worst Movie Director of All Time' for 'Glenn or Glenda,' 'Plan Nine from Outer Space,' 'Jail Bait' and 'Orgy of the Dead' to name a few. The new musical focuses on the director's decision to hire Bela Lugosi, famous for his film portrayal of Dracula at the end of Lugosi's career. (more...)

Yesterday, December 20, Broadway's globally acclaimed revival of the Tony Award-winning musical CHICAGO celebrated another momentous milestone and record-breaking when it played performance #6,681. With that 8 p.m. performance at the historic Ambassador Theatre, CHICAGO surpassed the original Broadway production of Les Miserables to become the third longest-running show in Broadway history.
