On May 7th, Ailey returned to Harlem's world-famous Apollo Theater for a one-night-only event which featured performances by the world-renowned Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, rising stars of Ailey II, gifted young dancers from The Ailey School, and talented students from AileyCamp Washington Heights and Newark. The Broadway Association, the 102-year-old not-for-profit business association that's committed to the betterment, safety and economic prosperity of the Times Square and Midtown West community, hosted its annual awards luncheon Monday afternoon at the InterContinental Times Square Hotel. The Broadway Association presented legendary Broadway Producer Daryl Roth with the Visionary Leader Award and New York City Police Commissioner Ray Kelly with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Thanksgiving is a very special time at God's Love, especially this year. In the wake of Hurricane Sandy's destruction, God's Love delivered 8,000 meals to people displaced by Sandy and 2,300 emergency meal kits called "Sandy Bags" to our clients. Last week we cooked 200 meals which our friends at Douglas Elliman brought to a group of people they've 'adopted' in the Far Rockaways. More than 900 generous volunteers will join God's Love We Deliver staff, celebrities, local politicians, and board members in preparing and delivering a record 3,400 meals for people living with HIV/AIDS, cancer and other life altering illnesses in New York City, and nearby Hudson County, New Jersey. 'There were no evacuations from Broadway theaters last night. Due to police activity that closed a few streets in Times Square , there were some late curtains but all shows did go on. For exchanges or refunds, theatregoers should contact their point of purchase. All Broadway matinee and evening shows will go on as scheduled today. The proper authorities are doing their jobs to keep Times Square safe for everyone, and Broadway shows are setting their stages to delight audiences.'
