Stephanie Blythe Makes Her Carnegie Hall Recital Debut, 3/11

On Monday, March 11, at 8:00 p.m., the versatile and commanding mezzo-soprano Stephanie Blythe, joined by frequent collaborator, pianist Warren Jones, makes her Carnegie Hall recital debut in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage with a deeply personal program of American song. Ms. Blythe's program features Twelve Poems of Emily Dickinson, a set of songs written for her by the late composer James Legg, and Samuel Barber's Three Songs, Op. 10, powerful settings of three poems by James Joyce. Also featured are songs by Tin Pan Alley songwriters Ray Henderson, Cole Porter, and Irving Berlin. (more...)

Official: GOOD NEWS, HELLO, DOLLY! & THE MOST HAPPY FELLA to Play Goodspeed in 2013 for 50th Anniversary

Two time Tony Award-winning Goodspeed Musicals, under the leadership of Executive Director Michael P. Price, is delighted to announce its Golden Anniversary season at the Goodspeed Opera House in East Haddam, Conn. The 50th season includes three very special musicals that are sure to please theatregoers: the charming collegiate comedy Good News will run from April 12 - June 22; Jerry Herman's beloved Hello, Dolly! will run from June 28 - September 8; and Frank Loesser's enchanting Broadway hit The Most Happy Fella will run from September 20 - December 1, 2013.
"To the cheers of many, on June 18, 1963 the footlights were once again lit on the Goodspeed Opera House stage. And now, fifty years later, we are in awe that so much has happened in and because of this gem of a building. It truly was an impossible dream that, from this tiny stage, the world of American musical theatre would be changed forever. Our Golden Anniversary celebration will feature three extraordinary musicals which we believe uniquely highlight what Goodspeed does best," said Mr. Price. (more...)

In less than four weeks, just as the early spring flowers start to peek above ground, the Celtic Arts Society will welcome one of the finest assemblages of world class Scottish performing artists to Seattle. And yes, there will be lots of men in kilts! Traditional bagpipes, borderpipes, smallpipes, fiddles, drums and dancers will all descend on Benaroya Hall for one night only at the highly anticipated Masters of Scottish Arts Concert. The Scottish people have a reputation for fun and celebration, and this concert is exactly that. (more...)

Ray Bradbury's Musical 2116 Makes Debut After 50-Year Wait

Ray Bradbury, author of classic novels such as Farenheit 451 and The Martian Chronicles, will get the first full production of his musical, 2116, after having sat on the back-burner for more than 50 years. The musical will made its debut at the Fremont Centre Theatre in South Pasadena under the title 'Ray Bradbury's Merry Christmas 2116' for its initial run. Following that, the musical will premiere under the shortened title 2116 along with a companion piece Wisdom (1916) under the title 'Ray Bradbury's Wisdom.' (more...)
