The New Amsterdam Singers, led by Clara Longstreth, will open its 45th season with a program entitled Comfort and Joy, featuring James MacMillan's Missa Brevis, the New York premieres of Judith Shatin's The God of Glory and Sheena Phillips's Two Carols, and works by Bach, Brahms, Victoria, Schutz, Randall Thompson, Abbie Betinis, and others. The concerts will take place tonight, December 7, 2012, at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, December 9, at 4:00 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 122 East 88th Street (at Lexington Avenue). (more...)

Schola Cantorum on Hudson Presents 'OUR MOTHER EARTH' 2012-13 Season by BWW News Desk - Nov 18, 2012
Most residents probably don't know it, but New Jersey has been a breeding ground for new choral music for nearly two decades. And Schola Cantorum on Hudson (SCH) is a big reason why. Founded in the mid-1990s by choral, vocal performer and educator Deborah Simpkin King, PhD, the independent non-profit's 35-member choral ensemble not only has a rich performance schedule, but it supports educational programs that train emerging music professionals, while taking a leadership role in the premiere of new choral works. LA Master Chorale Showcases 1,000 Southland Teens at High School Choir Festival Tonight, 5/4 by BWW News Desk - May 04, 2012
For 23 years, the Los Angeles Master Chorale has helped fuel a passion for choral music among Southland teenagers with its annual High School Choir Festival, a yearlong music education and mentoring program that reaches nearly 1,000 students and their choir teachers in 25 local high schools, culminating with a free concert at Walt Disney Concert Hall where the public can hear the next generation of singers. This year's event, the 23rd Annual Los Angeles Master Chorale High School Choir Festival, features participating students in a massed 1,000-voice choir tonight, May 4, 2012, at 1 pm, at Disney Hall. There will also be a special performance by the 80-voice Festival honor Choir, comprised of students from the 25 participating schools. Grant Gershon, music director of the LA Master Chorale, conducts both choirs, which have been rehearsing for the concert since last fall. (more...)
