MoMA, FSLC to Host 42nd New Directors/Films in March 2013; Now Open For Submissions

The Museum of Modern Art and the Film Society of Lincoln Center will present the 42nd edition of New Directors/New Films (ND/NF) from March 20-31, 2013. This year's festival will welcome two new programmers to the ND/NF team, FSLC's Director of Year-Round Programming, Robert Koehler, and MoMA Associate Curator Joshua Siegel, who have replaced FSLC Program Director Richard Peņa and MoMA Senior Film Curator Lawrence Kardish. Peņa will step down from his role as Program Director at the end of the year and Kardish retired in October. The New Directors/New Films selection committee members from both presenting organizations include: from the Film Society of Lincoln Center, Robert Koehler, Marian Masone, and Gavin Smith; and from The Museum of Modern Art, Jytte Jensen, Rajendra Roy and Joshua Siegel.

The Museum of Modern Art announces a selection of films and special guests from the 2012 lineup of The Contenders, MoMA's annual end-of-the-year series that offers filmgoers the opportunity to see a wide spectrum of influential and innovative films made within the last 12 months, running October 31, 2012, through January 14, 2013, in The Roy and Niuta Titus Theaters (except where noted below). Laurence Kardish to Retire From The Museum of Modern Art After 40 Years

Laurence Kardish, Senior Curator in the Department of Film at The Museum of Modern Art, will retire on October 15, after a 44-year career at MoMA. Mr. Kardish joined the Museum as Curatorial Assistant in the Department of Film in 1968, and was promoted to Assistant Curator in 1971, Associate Curator in 1977, Curator in 1984, and Senior Curator in 1999. During his career at MoMA, he organized hundreds of film exhibitions and special screenings, established a number of important annual film series, and was responsible for coordinating more than 60 film exhibitions each year in the Museum's Roy and Niuta Titus Theaters.
