Producers Hal Luftig and Scott Sanders announced today that the Tony Award Nominated Best Revival of a Musical, Tim RiceÂ’s and Andrew Lloyd WebberÂ’s EVITA, will launch a first national tour in the fall of 2013 at Providence Performing Arts Center in Providence, Rhode Island. Trinity Repertory Company announced today that Rhode Island’s own Academy Award-nominated actress, Viola Davis, will be honored with the 2012 Pell Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Arts at the 16th annual Pell Awards next month. Theater educator Elaine Foster Perry will receive the Charles Sullivan Award for Distinguished Service in the Arts, Brown University President Ruth J. Simmons will receive the Pell Award For Leadership in Arts Education, and J.L. “Lynn” Singleton, President of the Providence Performing Arts Center and Professional Facilities Management, will be honored as the recipient of the Pell Award for Outstanding Leadership in the Arts. Jo-Ann Ragosta, Chairperson of the ARTS Scholarships 2012 program, along with the members of the Community Outreach Committee of the Providence Performing Arts Center (PPAC), are pleased to announce the winners of the ARTS Scholarships 2012 program, sponsored by Textron Inc. with support from the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts, Ocean State Charities Trust, and the PPAC Annual Fund Donors. This yearÂ’s expanded program will award scholarships to 30 talented Rhode Island student artists, ages 11-14, each of whom will receive a scholarship of up to $500 that will provide an opportunity to attend local summer arts education programs that will expand their experiences in a chosen area of study (please see below for the list of ARTS Scholarships 2012 winners).
