The uproarious production of Marc Camoletti's Boeing-Boeing that landed at Northport's John W. Engeman Theatre is indeed a brilliant night of theatre. Directed by BT McNicholl, the show runs through May 5th at the Long Island venue and let me tell you that the talented cast will put even the biggest sour-puss in a good mood. (more...)

The Royal Conservatory Announces Upcoming Events

In celebration of Koerner Hall's fifth anniversary, Dr. Peter Simon, President of The Royal Conservatory, and Mervon Mehta, Executive Director of Performing Arts, revealed today some of the details of the 2013-14 concert season. As always, the upcoming season will include pop, world music, and new special series. Classical and jazz concerts are being announced now, and the rest of the season of over 70 concerts will be released in June. The Conservatory is thrilled to welcome Broadway star Audra McDonald; soprano Natalie Dessay with composer and pianist Michel Legrand; cellist Mischa Maisky; violinists Midori, Isabelle Faust, and Leonidas Kavakos; pianists Yuja Wang, András Schiff, Kirill Gerstein, and Menahem Pressler; Europa Galante with Fabio Biondi; and jazz musicians Joe Sealy, Jackie Richardson, Arlene Duncan, Ranee Lee, Ramsey Lewis Quintet, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Terri Lyne Carrington, Lalah Hathaway, Nona Hendryx, John Pizzarelli, Daniela Nardi, and The Manhattan Transfer. The Fulton Theatre continues its 160th anniversary season with the Agatha Christie courtroom thriller Witness for the Prosecution. The play was subsequently adapted for film, directed by Billy Wilder and starring Marlene Dietrich and Tyrone Power, in his final film role. Magnolia Pictures Acquires Distribution Rights to History Films' NO PLACE ON EARTH

The Wagner/Cuban Company's Magnolia Pictures announced today that the company is acquiring U.S. theatrical distribution rights to NO PLACE ON EARTH from HISTORY FILMS(TM), which has U.S. TV rights. The feature documentary tells the gripping story of a Jewish family who took refuge in a cave for nearly two years to evade Nazi capture. The acquisition announcement comes less than 48 hours following the film's world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on Monday night, where it received a lengthy standing ovation. The Alabama Shakespeare Festival to Open 2012 Season with THE MERRY WIVES OF WINDSOR, 4/13

The Alabama Shakespeare Festival will roll into its repertory season when William Shakespeare's comedy The Merry Wives of Windsor opens on April 13 followed by Henry VIII on April 19. In addition to the openings of these two Shakespearean works, two comedies The Thirty Nine Steps and Travels My Aunt will reopen for the second half of their runs on April 22. ASF's Extreme Weekends, in which theatre lovers can see all four repertory shows Friday through Sunday are available April 20-22 and 27-29 as well as May 4-6, 11-13 and 18-20. (more...)

The Alabama Shakespeare Festival Presents a Comedy Double Feature Beginning 1/27

Two "winter-blues" busting comedies, the Broadway smash The 39 Steps and Travels With My Aunt will be running in tandem at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival beginning on January 27. The 39 Steps will be performed at ASF's Festival stage from January 27 through February 7 and Travels With My Aunt will run on ASF's Octagon stage from February 3-7. Both shows will return later in the repertory season.
