Cynthia Nixon Narrates Pit Stop Players' THE RITE STUFF Tonight by BWW News Desk - May 06, 2013
The Pit Stop Players, a thirteen-member instrumental ensemble composed of veteran Broadway pit musicians, will conclude their fourth season with special guest Cynthia Nixon narrating a new work, plus a newly commissioned chamber arrangement of Igor Stravinsky's towering masterpiece, 'The Rite of Spring.' Marin Alsop Leads BSO in Music from Film ALEXANDER NEVSKY, 1/11-13 by BWW

The concert hall is transformed into the movie theater when the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO), lead by Music Director Marin Alsop, with soprano Irina Tchistjakova and the Baltimore Choral Arts Society perform Sergei Prokofiev's music score from Sergei Eisenstein's classic 1938 motion picture Alexander Nevsky. The BSO and guests will perform this majestic score live while the film is projected behind them on Friday, January 11, 2013 at 8 p.m. and Today, January 13, 2013 at 3 p.m. at Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, and Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 8 p.m. at The Music Center at Strathmore. Daniel Narducci, Baltimore Choral Arts Society and the Anacrusis Handbell Ensemble join the BSO SuperPops for a Holiday Pops Celebration by BWW News Desk - Nov 16, 2012
The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) SuperPops and baritone Daniel Narducci, star of stage and screen, will be ringing in the holiday season at the Music Center at Strathmore on Wednesday, December 12 at 8 p.m. and at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall on Thursday, December 13 at 2 p.m., Friday December 14 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., Saturday December 15 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and Sunday December 16 2102 at 2 p.m. Under the direction of conductor Robert Bernhardt, this Holiday Pops Celebration will feature the Baltimore Choral Arts Society and the Anacrusis Handbell Ensemble in a program of carols, classic holiday favorites, sing-alongs and even a special guest from the North Pole. Russian Pianist Pavel Kolesnikov Wins 2012 Honens International Piano Competition by BWW News Desk - Oct 27, 2012
Russian pianist Pavel Kolesnikov has been named the Prize Laureate of the 2012 Honens International Piano Competition. Mr. Kolesnikov (age 23) receives the $100,000 Enbridge Prize (cash, CAD) and an artistic and career development program valued at a half million dollars - the largest award of its kind. Finalists Lorenzo Cossi (Italy), Maria Mazo (Russia), Jong-Hai Park (South Korea) and Eric Zuber (United States) each received $10,000 (CAD) prizes and semi-finalist Zenan Yu of China was awarded the $2,500 Raeburn Prize for Artist of Special Promise. Let's face it: You have to give Paul Vasterling, the grand poobah (as both artistic director and CEO of Nashville Ballet, what other title suits him best?) of all things musical/dancical/theatrical in Music City, a whole bunch of credit for the imaginative-heretofore unexperienced-heights he has helped his company achieve and his city to claim as its own. The man has redefined the idea of collaboration while giving human form to the term "synergy" with his continuing efforts to push the creative envelope in a city filled with artistic types and their sometimes conflicting sensibilities. Principal Pops Conductor Jack Everly leads the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and Baltimore Choral Arts Society in a concert featuring popular favorites from musicals such as Les Miserables and Miss Saigon on Thursday, April 19 at 8 p.m. at the Music Center at Strathmore, Friday, April 20 at 8 p.m., Saturday, April 21 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, April 22 at 3 p.m. at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall.
