Manhattan Theatre Club (Lynne Meadow, Artistic Director; Barry Grove, Executive Producer; Mandy Greenfield, Artistic Producer) announces the 2011 recipients of the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Initiative commissions. This year's eight commissioned writers are Daniel Goldfarb (Cradle & All), Anne Washburn (The Internationalist), Lisa D'Amour (Detroit), Samuel D. Lee Pace Joins Cast of TEAM OF RIVALS Film

According to Deadline.com, Broadway veteran Lee Pace will join previously reported Daniel Day-Lewis, Sally Field, and David Strathairn in "Team of Rivals," based on Doris Kearns Goodwin's biography of the president. Steven Spielberg will direct the film titled, "Lincoln," featuring a screenplay by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Tony Kushner. ( more...)

Lee Pace Joins McKellen, Blanchett in THE HOBBIT

According to Peter Jackson's Facebook page, roadway veteran Lee Pace will join previously announced Cate Blanchett, and Ian McKellan in the Upcoming big screen adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's THE HOBBIT. Pace will play Thranduil. Filming is set to begin in February in New Zealand, as confirmed by MGM, Warner Brothers, and New Line, and Lord of the Rings director and Oscar-winner Peter Jackson will direct the two-part film. Aurora Theatre Company Announces GAP Directors

Berkeley's Aurora Theatre Company announces the directors for the company's sixth Global Age Project (GAP) festival of new works: Aurora Theatre Company Artistic Director chose Allen McKelvey, M. Graham Smith, Jonathan Spector, and Tracy Ward to sit on this year's GAP Director's Council. Over the next several weeks, the directors, along with Ross, will select finalists from an international pool of play submissions dealing with global age concerns. Four plays will be chosen to be presented as staged readings during the GAP festival, scheduled for February of 2011. The GAP festival will coincide with the company's fully-staged World Premiere of 2010 GAP finalist Allison Moore's new comedy, COLLAPSE, the second main stage production to develop from the GAP.

Huntington Presents A Reading Of UNKNOWN SOLDIER 6/13

A new musical by Michael Friedman and Daniel Goldstein will be read this Sunday, June 13 at 5:30pm as part of the Huntington Theatre Company's Breaking Ground reading series, held at the Huntington's Stanford Calderwood Pavilion at the Boston Center for the Arts. The reading is free and open to the public, though reservations are recommended as seating is limited. ( more...)
