Tony Award-winner Harvey Fierstein will host a special Birthday party on Thursday, May 24th to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Little / Helen Hayes Theatre (240 West 44th Street), which opened on March 12, 1912 with John GalsworthyÂ’s play The Pigeon. CINDERELLA, MERRY WIVES OF WINDSOR, and CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF Set for African-American Shakespeare Company 2012-13 Season

San FranciscoÂ’s African-American Shakespeare Company has announced the lineup for its 18th season. The season marks African-American Shakespeare CompanyÂ’s third season under the artistic leadership of acclaimed actor and director L. Peter Callender. The season opens in December with an enchanting holiday production of CINDERELLA; this new take on the timeless fairytale has become a seasonal favorite for families and children of all ages. The season continues in March with William ShakespeareÂ’s quintessential comedy MERRY WIVES OF WINDSOR. Closing the season in April is Tennessee WilliamsÂ’s Pulitzer Prize-winning CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF. Productions will be staged at the Buriel Clay Theater at the African American Art & Culture Complex in San Francisco. Subscriptions for the 2012-13 season go on sale May 12. (more...)

Lynn Cohen headlines the cast, alongside Jake Robards, of the world premiere of Rivka Bekerman-Greenberg's EAVESDROPPING ON DREAMS, presented Off-Broadway by Barefoot Theatre Company. Previews began April 20, prior to an official press opening of Friday, April 27, at the Cherry Lane Studio Theatre (38 Commerce Street) in Manhattan. Ronald Cohen will direct. Joining Ms. Cohen and Mr. Robards in the cast of EAVESDROPPING ON DREAMS will be Stephanie Roth Haberle, Aidan Koehler and Christopher Whalen. York will play the brunette, Dorothy Shaw, best friend of Lorelei, the diamond-loving blonde played by Hilty. Gentlemen Prefer Blondes will be directed by John Rando with music direction by Rob Berman and choreography by Randy Skinner and will play for seven performances, May 9 – 13, at New York City Center, 55th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues. Lincoln Center's A CELEBRATION OF PAUL NEWMAN’S DREAM to Feature Josh Groban, Jake Gyllenhaal, 4/2

On April 2, 2012, at New York’s Avery Fisher Hall in Lincoln Center, musical artists and stars will come together to show their support for a special evening billed as “A Celebration of Paul Newman’s Dream,” to benefit Paul Newman’s Association of Hole in the Wall Camps. The event will feature performances by world-renowned performing artists, the campers themselves and a special announcement about the Association’s global network of camps. Performances will include GRAMMY-winning and GRAMMY-nominated musicians: Josh Groban, Paul Simon and Trisha Yearwood, as well as additional surprise musical performances throughout the evening and appearances by Jake Gyllenhaal and Jimmy Fallon, with more to be announced. Ticket sales from the evening – which is supported by Newman’s Own Foundation and hosted by Joanne Woodward, produced by Kevin Duncan and directed by Josh Rhodes – will benefit Paul Newman’s family of camps and programs supporting children facing serious illnesses from around the world. Casting has been completed for New York City Center’s upcoming Encores! production of Stephen Sondheim’s Merrily We Roll Along, the first New York City Center Encores! production of the season. Merrily We Roll Along, with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by George Furth, will be directed by James Lapine with music direction by Rob Berman and musical staging by Dan Knechtges. Merrily has been extended for a two-week run and will play for 15 performances, February 8–19, 2012, at New York City Center, 55th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues. (more...)
