ELECTRIC SUMMER Exhibition to Open 7/11 at L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center by BWW News Desk - Jun 17, 2013
The L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center's Advocate & Gochis Galleries present Electric Summer, an exhibition of original artworks by New York-based artist Gina Raphaela and the renowned rock/funk/R & B music legend Nona Hendryx. A free opening reception, featuring a special performance piece by Ms. Hendryx, will take place on Thursday, July 11, 7-9 p.m., in the galleries, located at the Center's Village at Ed Gould Plaza. The exhibit is curated by Katie Pomerantz and will run through August 17. (more...)

Vince Pesce Named Director of Education at STAGES ST. LOUIS by BWW News Desk - Jun 17, 2013
STAGES ST. LOUIS is thrilled to announce new staff appointments to STAGES' Turley Performing Arts Academy. Broadway Veteran, Vince Pesce will assume the position of Director of Education at STAGES Kent Center for Theatre Arts, the new state-of-the-art facility, effective immediately. Pesce replaces longtime Education Director Rob Grumich, who will remain during the transition through July. Also, Tali Allen Liddell will become the Manager of Community Programs and Partnerships. Chad Kimball to Star in Retrop Productions' JULIAN PO at NYMF, 7/8-14 by BWW News Desk - Jun 11, 2013
The New York Musical Theatre Festival and Retrop Productions will present JULIAN PO, a new musical with book and lyrics by Andrew Barrett and music by Ira Antelis, from July 8 to 14, 2013. JULIAN PO, which mixes comedy and drama, opens in New York after a critically-acclaimed, sold-out run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival where it was nominated for "Best Book of a Musical." JULIAN PO, based on the book La mort de monsieur Golouja by Branimir Š?epanovi? and the screenplay "Julian Po" by Alan Wade, features elements of pop, rock, country, bluegrass and gospel. JULIAN PO is an official selection of The New York Musical Theatre Festival's "2013 Next Link Project." The show is directed by Kirsten Sanderson with music direction by Mark Hartman. (more...)

The Broadway at Birdland partnership with multi-Grammy and Tony nominated composer Frank Wildhorn continues with another 'Frank & Friends' concert on Monday, May 20 at 7pm, featuring Broadway performer Capathia Jenkins and supperclub star Clint Holmes, with Wildhorn at the piano. Dee Dee Bridgewater Leads LADY DAY Musical at the Little Shubert Theatre by BWW News Desk - May 16, 2013
Multi-award-winning set designer Beowulf Boritt, along with noted costumes designer Patricia A. Hibbert, and acclaimed lighting designed by Ryan O'Gara will head the design team for the upcoming Billie Holiday musical "Lady Day" starring Tony and multiple Grammy Award-winner Dee Dee Bridgewater. With an opening set for Thursday, October 3rd(6:30PM) the production will take residence at Times Square's Little Shubert Theatre (422 West 42nd Street, between 9th and 10th Avenues). Written and directed by Stephen Stahl, the musical will make its New York debut having been produced at the Theatre de Boulogne-Billancourt and Theatre du Gymnase Marie Bell in Paris as well as The Donmar Warehouse and The Piccadilly Theatre in London, where it received critical praise and garnered an Olivier "Best Actress in a Musical" Award nomination for Ms. Bridgewater. Produced by Misty Road Productionsthe show's creative team also includes three-time Emmy Award winning composer & arranger Bill Jolly, who will serve as musical director.
