On Saturday, March 9, noted arranger and producer, Fred Barton, whose work is heard regularly in concert halls around the country, is celebrating composer Jule Styne on the Schimmel stage. With the scores of such Broadway classics as Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Peter Pan, Bells Are Ringing, Gypsy and Funny Girl to his credit, composer Jule Styne ranks as one of the undisputed architects of the American musical theater. In addition to his legendary work in the theater Styne has also made Academy Award-winning contributions to the American Hollywood songbook writing songs for films such as Anchors Aweigh,Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Funny Girl, Funny Lady and Three Coins in a Fountain. Broadway fell in love with Pamela Myers in 1970 when she introduced the now quintessential ode to New York City, "Another Hundred People," in the original cast of Stephen Sondheim's Company, in which she originated the role of Marta. New York audiences also know her as Lucy Van Pelt in Broadway's Snoopy!, and Cinderella's Stepmother in the 2002 revival of Into the Woods, among others. But television audiences know Pamela best not only for her recurring roles on Alice, but for her four season run on Sha-Na-Na. BWW Interviews: Talking SONDHEIM With Pamela Myers

A veteran of stage and screen, Pamela Myers has starred in several of Sondheim's works, including INTO THE WOODS, GYPSY, SWEENEY TODD and SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE. She was also a member of the original Broadway cast of COMPANY, for which she received a Tony nomination. Trained at the Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music, Myers also enjoys teaching and has spent the past four summers sharing her knowledge with students in the Cabaret Conference at Yale University. When all is said and done, Great Lakes Theater should be extremely proud of its first collaboration of PlayhouseSquare as part of the annual Key Bank Broadway Series. The production is on par with the touring shows that stop in Cleveland. Just because SONDHEIM ON SONDHEIM is considered a regional production shouldn't stop people from going to see it. You'll leave the theatre with a deeper appreciate of the theatre process, more knowledge of the amazing Stephen Sondheim and a song or two stuck in your head. (more...)

Following eighteen sold out shows, the hit cabaret series, SONDHEIM UNPLUGGED, will continue for an nineteenth installment, Sunday, October 30 at 7pm at The Laurie Beechman Theatre. Sondheim Unplugged is currently celebrating the second year of it's smash run, having begun this journey of celebrating Sondheim in July of 2010. The series will close, following an unprecedented 17 month run, with it's 20th performance on Monday, November 28 @ 7pm. (more...)
