Handel and Haydn Society Presents Handel Jephtha, conducted by Artistic Director Harry Christophers, in celebration of the 2015 Bicentennial. The piece premiered in the US by H&H in 1855. Performances are set for tonight, May 3, 2013 at 7:30pm and Sunday, May 5, 2013 at 3pm at Symphony Hall, 301 Massachusetts Avenue, Boston, Mass. (more...)

New York Live Arts is set to present several Re: Awakenings performances as part of the inaugural Live Ideas festival. New York Live Arts' newest program initiative, Live Ideas is an annual humanities festival that will explore a different theme each year over several days. The inaugural festival, The Worlds of Oliver Sacks, will take place from today, April 17 through 21, 2013 and is comprised of more than 20 events, including performances, films and discussions that showcase works of art and spark conversations that engage the prevalent themes in the acclaimed neurologist's works. The New York Philharmonic will present A Dancer's Dream: Two Works by Stravinsky, a multidisciplinary, theatrical reimagining of the ballets The Fairy's Kiss and Petrushka, created by Giants Are Small. Co-produced by the United Kingdom's The Opera Group and Opera North in association with ROH2 and Watford Palace Theatre comes the U.S. premiere of David Bruce and Glyn Maxwell's THE FIREWORK MAKER'S DAUGHTER, based on the novel by Philip Pullman (His Dark Materials trilogy) and directed by John Fulljames (The Enchanted Pig, New Vic 2010). Featuring performances by New York's Metropolis Ensemble chamber orchestra, led by GRAMMY Award-nominated conductor Andrew Cyr, and a cast of five singers who enliven shadow puppetry designed by Cambridge, England's Indefinite Articles, THE FIREWORK MAKER'S DAUGHTER makes its American debut at The New Victory Theater from May 3 through May 12, 2013. Sasha Siem Plays Le Poisson Rouge Tomorrow

So Polite, the debut EP from UK-based composer and songwriter Sasha Siem is out now on Gearbox Records. The EP will be available as a special edition vinyl and will be distributed widely via AWAL. In conjunction with the release, Siem recently appeared London at the Royal Opera House and New York City at Le Poisson Rouge on March 2. Her upcoming full length album "Most Of The Boys" is due this summer with production duties handled in Iceland by Valgeir Siguršsson. (more...)
