Sundance Institute and Skywalker Sound to Host 2013-14 Music and Sound Design Labs at Skywalker Ranch by Movies News Desk - Jun 03, 2013
Sundance Institute and Skywalker Sound today announced that the Sundance Institute Music and Sound Design Labs at Skywalker Sound will take place at Skywalker Ranch in 2013 and 2014 and also announced the artists that will participate in the 2013 Labs. This is the first time the two organizations will collaborate to support independent filmmakers and film composers and marks a significant expansion of the Institute's existing Composers Labs to include sound design. The Town Hall is proud to announce the season finale of Broadway by the Year featuring The Broadway Musicals of 1988, includingThe Phantom of the Opera, Chess, Legs Diamond, Romance Romance, Carrie, and More! Scott Siegel, the creator, writer, and host of Broadway by the Year has selected a half dozen performers to star in the concert, including Howard McGillin, who holds the record for playing 'The Phantom' longer than any other actor in Broadway history. He will be joined by one of his Christines, Jennifer Hope Wills. Drama Desk Nominees Farah Alvin (The Marvelous Wonderettes) and Kevin Earley (Death Takes a Holiday) return toBroadway by the Year. Lisa Brescia, who starred on Broadway in Twyla Tharp's The Times They Are A-Changin', as Elphaba in Wicked, and as Donna in Mamma Mia! makes her Broadway by the Year debut and favorite Scott Coulter will direct and star in the concert. Chris Milk is an accomplished artist, director, and photographer who has created music videos for Kanye West, Arcade Fire, Beck, Norah Jones, Jack White, U2, Gnarls Barkley, Green Day, and many more. On Friday, April 19, 2013 at 7:00 p.m., Milk will be the first artist to participate in the series Sonos and VEVO present: The Director's Studio, presented in conjunction with the exhibition Spectacle: The Music Video, currently on view at Museum of the Moving Image through June 16, 2013. Milk will show and discuss highlights from his work in an hour-long conversation, to be moderated by Chris Melcher (Melcher Media), founder of The Future of Storytelling Summit. (more...)
