The Play Company's Idea Lab, in collaboration with Goethe-Institut New York and the German Consulate New York, is proud to present a public event featuring internationally acclaimed German playwright Roland Schimmelpfennig, in conjunction with our New York premiere production of his play THE GOLDEN DRAGON. Mr. Schimmelpfennig will discuss his award-winning play THE GOLDEN DRAGON, his larger body of work, and trends in German theatre on Sunday, May 12 @4:15pm -- immediately following the 3pm matinee performance of THE GOLDEN GRAGON at The New Ohio Theatre, 154 Christopher Street. This open conversation will be moderated by Dr. Frank Hentschker, Executive Director of the Martin E. Segal Theatre Center at the CUNY Graduate Center. (more...)

The New York premiere of THE GOLDEN DRAGON, presented by the OBIE Award-winning The Play Company (WORKING ON A SPECIAL DAY, INVASION!), is written by acclaimed German playwright Roland Schimmelpfennig and translated by David Tushingham. THE GOLDEN DRAGON is directed by Ed Sylvanus Iskandar (THESE SEVEN SICKNESSES, RESTORATION COMEDY), renowned for whimsical invite-only theater company, Exit, Pursued by a Bear. THE GOLDEN DRAGON will be performed at The New Ohio Theatre (154 Christopher Street in the West Village) from tonight, May 8th through Sunday, June 9th, 2013. The musical is the company's first commission and has book/lyrics by Sammy Buck (Like You Like It, Stinky Kids, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus) and music/lyrics by Brandon James Gwinn (Matchmaker, Matchmaker - I'm Ready to Settle). The presentation is made possible in part by the National Alliance for Musical Theater's Writers' Residency Grant.

Rattlestick Playwrights Theater Extends YOSEMITE For Four Additional Performances

Rattlestick Playwrights Theater announced today that its production of Yosemite, a new play written by Daniel Talbott will play four additional performances (through March 3rd). Performances began on Wednesday, January 18, 2012 and the show enjoyed an official opening night on Thursday, January 26th. Originally scheduled to run through Sunday, February 26th, Yosemite will now play through Saturday, March 3rd at Rattlestick Theater (224 Waverly Place - off Seventh Avenue South, between Perry & West 11th Streets).
