Gil Morgenstern's Reflection Series Announces 2012-13 Line-Up

Violinist and artistic director Gil Morgenstern’s acclaimed Reflections Series celebrates five years of innovative programming in its intimate home at WMP Concert Hall (31 East 28th Street, NYC), described by New York Magazine as, “a miniature version of a European aristocrat’s music room.” Due to the success of the series, most programs will now have two performances. Season tickets are now available. Those who purchase by June 30 will be invited to a VIP Opening Night Party on September 12. (more...)

Theater Talk to Make 2012 Tony Predictions on 5/25

THEATER TALK® presents its annual Tony® Awards predictions with favored panelists Patrick Pacheco of the Los Angeles Times, Michael Musto of The Village Voice, and Jesse Green of New York Magazine joining series co-hosts Michael Riedel of the New York Post and producer Susan Haskins for a lively session of agreement and dissension. Tony Predictions 2012 premieres Friday, May 25 (2012) at 1 AM on Thirteen, followed by airings on CUNY TV* Saturday 5/26 (8:30 PM), Sunday 5/27 (12:30 PM) and Monday 5/21 (7:30 AM, 1:30 PM, and 7:30 PM). Music Director Alan Gilbert and the New York Philharmonic, America’s oldest orchestra, came to Walt Disney Concert Hall in the final event of the LA Phil’s 2011/12 Visiting Orchestras series, this Wednesday, May 9. Virtuoso pianist Yefim Bronfman joined the program, performing the West Coast premiere of Piano Concerto No. 2, by New York Philharmonic Composer-in-Residence Magnus Lindberg. Also on the program were Dvorák’s Carnival Overture and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4. Though Gilbert had previously appeared at Walt Disney Concert Hall (WDCH), most recently during the 2006/07 season, the performance was the New York Philharmonic’s WDCH debut. The overall results were Best Play: Sons of the Prophet (Stephen Karam), Best Foreign Play: Tribes (Nina Raine), Best Musical: Once (Enda Walsh, Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová) and Special Citations: Signature Theatre Company; Mike Nichols for his contribution to the theater. On December 4, 1956, an auspicious twist of fate brought Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis Presley together. The place was Sun Records' storefront studio in Memphis. The man who made it happen was Sam Phillips, the "Father of Rock 'n' Roll," who discovered them all.
