CINDERELLA's Laura Osnes and Santino Fontana to Host 2013 Jimmy Awards; Nominees Announced! by BWW News Desk - Jun 19, 2013
The National High School Musical Theater Awards (NHSMTA) is pleased to announce that 62 finalists selected from tens of thousands of students will compete for the coveted Jimmy Award for Best Performance by an Actor and Best Performance by an Actress, scholarships and other honors at an event on Broadway to be hosted by the Tony Award-nominated stars of Rodgers + Hammerstein's CINDERELLA, Laura Osnes (Cinderella) and Santino Fontana (the Prince). The fifth annual performance showcase featuring dynamic ensemble and solo performances exclusively from the musical theater cannon will take place on Monday, July 1, 2013 at 7:30pm at the Minskoff Theatre (200 W. 45th St). NJYT, Morris Museum's Bickford Theatre & Centenary Stage Co. to Present WEST SIDE STORY this Summer by BWW News Desk - Jun 19, 2013
New Jersey Youth Theatre (NJYT) has spent the 25 years producing and mounting professional-level musical theatre productions with casts consisting of children, teenagers, and young adults. In 1997, when the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) opened its doors, New Jersey Youth Theatre took residency in the PAC's Victoria Theatre. Over a period of 15 years, NJYT and NJPAC produced award-winning shows that utilized the talent of over 600 young performers throughout the state. For the first time in 15 years, New Jersey Youth Theatre has separated from NJPAC and has ventured out on its own, returning to its community roots. (more...)

Roosevelt School to Perform Disney's JUNGLE BOOK KIDS with Turnaround Arts, 6/14 by BWW News Desk - Jun 10, 2013
Once the lowest performing school in the State of Connecticut, Roosevelt is one of eight schools around the country turning itself around through the arts. Roosevelt School was selected last April to be part of Turnaround Arts, an initiative of the President's Committee on the Arts and the Humanities of which First Lady Michelle Obama is Honorary Chair. Thanks to the generosity of a very special donor, Roosevelt's accomplishments will be showcased this week in a musical theater production. (more...)

Sell A Door Theatre Company has just announced that SEUSSICAL (young audiences version) will once again perform for a limited season at the Arts Theatre from the 30th November 2013 - 5th January 2014. Auditions for 'Little Shop of Horrors' with book by Howard Ashman and music and lyrics by Alan Menken take place on Saturday, July 13 from 11am-4pm and Sunday, July 14 from 6-9pm, with callbacks on Monday, July 15 from 7-10pm.at the Westchester Playhouse, located at 8301 Hindry Avenue, Westchester, CA 90045. Teaching Young Actors Presents SONGS FOR A NEW WORLD, Opening 6/14 by BWW News Desk - May 24, 2013
Tickets are now on sale for Songs for a New World at Drama Learning Center in Columbia. This re-imagining by director Stephanie Lynn Williams and the TYA company turns the conventional interpretations of Jason Robert Brown's song cycle upside down by setting the piece in a future where Earth is on the verge of being destroyed and its history lost. Groups of people from various walks of life are selected for a mission to find a new world in the event that the planet is annihilated. Producer and President of Disney Theatrical Productions, Thomas Schumacher and Stage Entertainment France, today announced that they will continue their ongoing producing partnership with the premiere of Disney's Beauty and the Beast, which will make its debut in Paris, France on October 24th, 2013 at the Mogador Theatre, marking the first time the production will be performed in French. BENJ PASEK and JUSTIN PAUL have added a second show at Joe's Pub at The Public on Wednesday, May 15. An 11:30 PM show was just added due to popular demand after the 9:30 PM show sold out. The Tony Award nominated composer and lyricist team is celebrating the new Ghostlight Records cast recording of Dogfight. Both shows will features performances by the original cast of the Second Stage Theatre production and other special guests. Dogfight just won the 2013 Lucille Lortel Award for "Outstanding Musical."
